Freezing rain and power outages hit Ontario

Ontario’s spring ice storm has left a wave of destruction in cottage country, with conditions expected to continue until at least Monday. Jeremie Charron has the details.

Still remembering the ice storm from the mid 1990s I soon learnt that if you own a house a backup gasoline generator (or a Generac) is a wise investment. My generator sat in my garage for several years. Now with this power outage, my generator is running keeping me warm and my lights are on. Time to brew another pot of coffee.

Tweed has been hit hard. Since 3am, I've been listening to the trees in my forest cracking and breaking. So much tree damage... The poor old pines...

My power lines are underground. Last time I had a power outage that lasted more than a few minutes was the Northeast blackout of 2003.
