Peterson really loves to unnecessarily complicate things. I don't know if he does it because he wants to throw his opponents off their game or if he talks so much to himself that he doesn't know how people actually speak.

What a shame Jordan can't listen to Sam and actually grow from this.
Fixed beliefs are dishonest ones.

JP realising there’s more money to be made from religion than humanism.

I was expecting something like:
What do you mean "religion"?
What do you mean "gives"?
What do you mean "people"?
What do you mean "a"?
What do you mean "bad"?
What do you mean "reason"?
What do you mean "to"?
What do you mean "be"?
What do you mean "good"?
Lol

Sam Harris communicating very clearly and simply and logically, with an audience also in mind.
JP within two seconds is out here talking about "a-priori perceptional structures".

JP was so ridiculous in this discussion. He has no business discussing religion as if he has any affinity with any religion but his own, made up, convoluted silliness.

Peterson's babble "a priori perceptual structure". What does it mean? Well a priori means theoretical instead of experiential. A perceptual structure is a a non-existent concept since the structure is either there or it isn't. If you perceive a structure then it's not a structure it's an image or thought or concept of one, which means it's not real. So his "a priori perceptual structure" is pure nonsense.

Jordan Peterson does this because he has his own cult. In this discussion countless of times JP says things that are an insult to the audience's intelligence yet his supporters were dying to clap his words and scream after he gives his "points". They are desperate to support him because he gives them that "drug", ("proofs" of their religion)

Peterson is so in over his head when it comes to Harris.

Moral people do the right thing regardless of what they are told. Religious people do what they are told, regardless what is right.

For a while I thought that JP just didn't get it, that morality comes from humanity and has been hijacked by religion. Now I understand that he has grown fat from those religious dollars that he needs to make any excuse he can think of to keep that money coming in.

And 'good' reasons to be terrible

Damn, Sam is pretty right about this. Being good to get a reward. But this is not what Christianity teaches, even though a lot of Christians do this. The cross is justice for our sin, which means it is convicting us of sin. If you don't really believe you are guilty, you become self righteous.

That's a second bit out of what looks to be a glorious debate.
Religion. A true believer whose whole perception is affected, and might even be a core stone, affected by semi-true aka religious prejudice, which is limited understanding(understanding that works only on the grounds of church). At some point this perception will push responsibility outside, responsibility for creation for making, leaving it for those who "have already done it" by writing a Bible, by the way who owns the Bible, the owner will receive all the power of creation(as well as distraction of lost chance, but this last is never claimed). There is another problem of religion which is differentiation and separation, by creating an outside god figure who is almighty and giving, who even though outside is still yours and looking after you, this is a problem of 'differentiation and separation'. Having, and unable to separate there is no growth, there is no creation and no perception, no chance and possibility.

Like when your father threatens to punish you for doing wrong ... that's a bad reason
But, Sam thinks the father should give gifts to get the child to do good and not wrong.
What do you wind up with?

To some degree, religion will hobble a society, and this depends upon the spiritual maturity achieved by the ppl involved.
But he is correct, a poorly led or badly-structured religion will keep ppl in a state of spiritual childhood, where a wisely led or well-structured religion is meant to eventually lead its members to a state of wisdom and growth, and spiritual maturity, based upon a healthy relationship with your God.
True Christianity is a well-structured religion but Catholicism has sought to corrupt it and turn it into a pagan waste of time... and deliberately so...

Peterson makes an insufferable word salad.
JP does this in short for not having anything of substance to say

JP just babbling...Darwinism is religion Sam, sorry to break it to you. People have killed wearing "survival of the fittest" shirts

good reasons SCALE better omg<3
religious mandates make sense is specific contexts but are broadly applied, secular reason factors in suffering and real effect <3

As Sam coherently explains a point, Jordan intently tries to formulate his next word salad response.
