You know how people have been trying to build flying cars for decades? I think this is the answer. It's basically a larger version of those ultralight, parasailing contraptions. The whole airfoil packs into a bag, the thing takes about 15 minutes to set up and run down the checklist. If the engine fails this thing will float back down at a slower speed than an airplane. And it probably needs about 300 yards to take off an land, if that.

Imagine this but with a turbofan engine and vectored thrust nozzles instead of a parafoil. I can't wait until the technology from the Harrier and Lightning II filter down into a flying car that any rich dude can buy for a quarter million and drive to work. I'm imagining some business exec landing on the helipad atop his company's highrise.
