The BEST Budget Camera Monitor in 2023... And it's NOT ATOMOS?! || Desview R6 Review

At nearly 1/3 of the price of the Atomos Ninja V, I want to introduce you to the DESVIEW R6, which in my humble opinion beats out any other camera monitor for the price when it comes to budget filmmaking.

he's got the lights, the camera, the lens with the deep depth of field (bokeh), the background stuff...it's all studio setup....and then like a complete tool he's using a $9 wired headphone microphone that he needs to hold and speak into...because that's whats "cool" these days. What an embarrassment. Pro life tip: when you're older and more secure with yourself, you're going to cringe at this version of you.

A better comparison would be to the Atomos Shinobi, since it is a monitor only device, Most people aren't getting the Ninja V/V+ for monitoring, unless your plan is to use the recording function in the future.

I liked this review, it definitely sounds like a good monitor to consider. One thing I will mention is that, some cameras have RAW external recording capabilities only, for which you need.. well, an external recorder. That's the main reason why I was thinking of Ninja V.

Don't mind watching you speak as the haters say, but I would have really loved to actually see the monitor :D

Great presentation. I use the R6 with my bmpcc6k pro and absolutely love it! For those that need an external recorder then yes by all means get the atomos. But for my needs nailing focus is a breeze with 2800 nits.

Great vid! considering to get this right now, I just really need a monitor to flip around so the people I record can see themselves and I think this well exceeds what I am looking for. Thanks!

Thanks for this review mam. I looked it up and I was surprised by the price. What a great deal! Thanks again.

Hopefully it’s better than the R5 I got. The on/off button is stuck so the only way to turn off is by either removing the battery or the ac adapter. Other than that, it’s I-ite.

Thanks for the great video. Have you noticed the levels of your metering tools changing while adjusting your brightness or contrast on the monitor itself? Not sure if I have a faulty unit or not but mine suffers from this issue. Waveform, false color, histogram shift up and down while adjusting brightness/contrast. Can't judge exposure reliably this way!!

Just to clarify the monitor doesn't have a battery indicator? How long would you say a medium Npf battery lasts?

Interesting, but comparing this Desview monitor to an Atomos Shinobi would’ve been more relevant.

Another significant drawback of this monitor is that it doesn’t accept 4k60. You won’t be too bothered by this with the A7sii, but an increasing number of people will be annoyed by the fact that you have to set your HDMI out accordingly

Only records up to 1080p whereas others record a full 4K. This makes this kind of obsolete in the modern marketplace unfortunately. It would be a buy for me, if it had other record formats. I guess that's how they keep the price so low. Good review!

Most of the budget monitors appear very similar, almost like they came out of the same factory with different brands on them. Generally, it seems most of them are decent for non professional work. Aside from some features that vary such as nits, weight and build, it would be really good to know out of all these budget models, who really makes the best quality. If at all.

So SmallHD seems to be the premium stuff and anything under $500 bucks is a plathora of names such as PortKeys, Feelworld, Osee to name a few that are all in the same price bracket. But who is really making the best quality out of these lower end guys? Does anyone have any useful insights on this?

Great video, was considering the freewill 6 monito... but may get this one now :) Do you have a recommendation for a decent tilt neck fitting to attach the monitor to a cage? cheers

No idea why someone wants to record via a monitor, I mean, that's what the camera is for? Desview R6 ordered, thanks for the review ... seems cheap and effective for "monitoring".

No battery indicator to me would be a deal breaker unfortunately. Maybe the Portkeys PT6 instead then
