Officer Melina Lim & Officer Patterson Rescue Woman Trapped in Car in Zone 1
Показать описание
Every single day officers from the Atlanta Police Department (APD) respond to emergency situations, help people in crisis, track down violent suspects and uplift people in the community. It is all in a day’s work for the men and women in blue. Many of their good deeds go unnoticed and never make the 5 p.m. news. This week, CBS46 reached out to APD to share a story of gratitude by a citizen who wanted them to know that APD officers helped to save her from a potential tragedy when a huge tree fell on her car, during bad weather, this past Father’s Day. One of the first officers on the scene of the incident was Officer Melina Lim from Zone 1, followed by Officer Vernon Patterson. As you will see in the incident BWC (Body Worn Camera) footage below, Officer Lim took control of the scene immediately, first by comforting the trapped woman, reaching for her hand, and speaking to her calmly through the half-raised driver’s side window-providing much needed assurance that help was on the way. Next, Officer Lim radioed for the Atlanta Fire and Rescue Department (AFRD) and back-up assistance. AFRD arrived and immediately went to work on removing the massive tree and extricating the fearful woman out of her car. Throughout the process, officer Lim remained calm and focused, while simultaneously providing concise information to her colleagues so that the incident could be resolved seamlessly. The citizen was removed safely by AFRD and she was provided medical assistance. When CBS 46 interviewed the victim, she applauded the help APD officers provided.
Officer Lim, and Patterson reflect our highest ideals and the elite training APD provides its officers. Their response to this situation potentially saved this woman’s life or at minimum helped to prevent additional harm. We cannot sing their praises enough. We are grateful also to all the AFRD personnel who helped in this incident. Firefighters are unsung heroes as they work 24/7 to save lives. We cannot thank them enough for all that they do. This is yet another example that the safety of the community is our top priority. The level of professionalism and clear thinking of all involved made all the difference. Good job to all involved! You make APD proud! #AtlantaPolice #APDProud #APDCares
