Hey Ya'll! Welcome back to the channel. On today's adventure, we show you how to change the battery in a 2021 Sea Doo GTI SE 170. This is great if you are needing to winterize your jet ski or just looking to replace the battery completely.

NOTE: Since filming the video, I've realized that I describe the order to remove the battery cables incorrectly. for safety sake is better to remove the negative first.

What otherjetski maintenance videos would you like to see?

I have 2 2020 GTI 170s with the double black strap. Let me tell you it was the one of the worst days of my life putting that strap back on. We ended up using a long belt tensioner tool to get it back on. I’m not taking the batteries out this winter. Glad to see Sea Doo fixed the problem. I tore up my forearms doing it. I wish they kept the battery in the “frunk”

Thanks for this video. I replaced the old battery. Was not easy to get to. BUT, that black coolant hose has now come off and I cannot get it back on. Seems like it does not even fit right. I have the metal clamp loosened and have spent probably 1-2 hours and it will not go back on/in. Any suggestions are appreciated

13:24 awesome video. I wish I would’ve watch this before I just change my battery did everything you said not to do. I also noticed I disconnected the coolant hose when I was pulling the battery out. Any tips on how to reconnect that or maybe you wanna make a new video. I have the exact same 2021 you have

Just a suggestion, if you place a towel across the area you are working and something falls, the towel catches it. It you are working towards the bottom, put the towel on the bottom. If something falls, you can generally pull the towel out slowly to the side and then fold it up the best you can and you will usually find what you dropped as long as it made it's way to the bottom. This has worked for me for 20 years when I though of it one day after dropping another screw. Told this to a friend who was going to remove a starter on his ski and he was glad he did it because 2 screws dropped out of ratchet as he removed them. He did the towel pull/fold to the side and there were the screws in the towel.

Great video. I changed my battery thanks to your video. It took me about 20 minutes, but I had to deal with a 4 foot long snake that decided to get under my Sea Doo and campout there.

Glad I verified what to do when unscrewing the battery (pos first)…was about to start w the neg 👍
On another note, A fellow jet ski owner was playing music from his beached unit..I asked if he was concerned about draining his battery & possibly beaching himself lol, he said he had added an auxiliary battery (so there are two now) and doesnt have to worry about it.
I asked the service shop where I purchased my unit (same as the yellow one in this video) about installing the 2nd battery..but they seemed to not have a clue what I was talking about…..
When I remove the ‘trunk’ panel, there appears to be a batter slot (like you show in this video w your older model).
Is it possible to add an auxiliary battery for the new unit shown in the video??

Great video. Question for you though: Battery has been out all winter. I have three leads to reconnect, the positive, negative, and a small black wire. I can’t remember if the small black goes to positive or negative. Do you have the third wire and if so where is it connected.

It does Not matter what kind of vehicle that you are working on, always always always remove the negative cable first!

Great video! I just replaced my battery - first time went in easy - then I forgot to install the battery tender leads - 2nd time lost a few screw/nuts but got it in :)

Helpful video. Such a terrible design for placement of the battery. I have the double straps and it's really difficult to access. A watertight access door would've been nice. Love the ski but there's a number of design flaws that suck.

That’s great. Hopefully that will take me in the right direction

Someone probably already mentioned this but do do like I did and forget to grab the rectangle screw nuts from the battery screws before they fall into the hull and you have to vacuum them out! Lmao!

Always heard disconnect negative first and reattached positive first. Your video suggests the opposite. Please confirm what is correct. Thanks. And thanks for the great video Tutsi

Hey thanks for this video I’ve been looking for this. Getting ready to winterize my 2021 GTI 130SE today. I have found that some will use a long hose removal tool to help with that strap & save your knuckles. It doesn’t hurt to use some blue painters tape or equivalent to help hold the battery terminal nuts & or screws so they won’t come loose. It also good to have one of the flexible tools that have a grab hook on the end to reach anything that does fall into the hull as everything is stainless or aluminum to help against corrosion on almost all watercraft. I like your Sea Doo & you got a new sub here.

I've always heard that Negative terminal is first off, and last on. You did this in the reverse order. Other than that, I found your video very helpful.

Great video, can you leave battery in there and just connect charger to terminals (only 1 amp trickle charge ). I would assume it’s just the same but without installing trickle charge leads permanently to battery. Thanks.

Did your battery terminals backwards. Take neg off first then install red first then neg last.
