Matin / Matinée - Soir / Soirée - Jour / Journée - An / Année

Pascal explains the difference between these words. Matin is a part of the day but Matinée is a duration. And both means morning.

Can you say "J'ai travaillé cette martinée'' or is it more common to say ''la martinée'' instead?

If we want to say that " in the evening, i watch television"....what should we use here....would "dans le soir" or " dans le soiree"....here i do not wish to convey a duration because the meaning is not that I watch television for the whole evening, the intended meaning is for some time during the evening, i watch televsion...so would le soir be more appropriate for we dont want to indicate a duration???
