The instructions in the annotations show how to start the Mustang correctly in normal as well as in cold and hot conditions. It is also demonstrated how to handle the aircraft if priming was forgotten or too short.

Therefore I used a standard procedure from left to right that ensures minimal system failures in flight.

Excellent vid! There are far too few of such videos and people don't realize the depth of realism in DCS. But this should be ED's work.

Normal Startup 15C

Ram Air: Up
Flaps: Up

Trim
Rudder:  6 degrees right
Elevator: 2 degrees forward (5 degrees with fuel tanks)

Prop Pitch: Full Forward
Throttle: Forward 1” 

Giro Motor: On

Fuel Booster: On
Ignition: Both
Fuel Valve: Forward

Check Left and Right Fuel Tank

Generator: On
Battery: On

Tail Light: On
Wing Lights: On (Lights can overheat if aircraft not moved soon)

Pitot Heat: On

VHF Channel: B (for ground comms)

Checks:

Main Fuel Tank
Elevator, Rudder, Aileron
Gear Lights
Blower Light

Gear Light: On

Contact Tower: Request Startup

Wheel Brakes: Press Both

Primer: On (3 seconds for 15C)
Starter: On (Hold)
Mixture: Set to Run (as engine begins to run correctly)
Starter: Off (immediately as Mixture is set to Run)

Check Instruments

Contact Tower: Request Taxi


Cold Startup -5C

Oil Dilute: On (about 1 minute for -5C)

Wheel Brakes: Press Both

Primer: On (4 seconds for 15C)
Starter: On (Hold)
Mixture: Set to Run (as engine begins to run correctly)
Starter: Off (immediately as Mixture is set to Run)


Hot Startup 30C

Wheel Brakes: Press Both

Primer: On (1 seconds for 30C)
Starter: On (Hold)
Mixture: Switch between Idle to Run many times
Mixture: Run (as engine begins to run correctly)
Starter: Off

Problems:

Forgot Primer / Engine Won’t Start

Mixture: Idle
Starter: Off
Wait 5 seconds / Retry
Try only 4 times then wait 2 minutes

Fix the problem by using the Primer

Checks:

Fuel Booster
Ignition
Fuel Valve
Fuel and Oil gauges

Prime: More
Oil Dilute: More

Engine Broken: No Solution!

In extreme cold I usually leave the ram air closed so that the engine heats up quicker. The coolant switches I set to off also. I also wait until it's about 50 degrees C for taxi and by the time you get to the run-way and check the settings again it should be hot enough to run smoothly on takeoff. After take-off I usually keep an eye on fuel pressure and turn the booster of and on accordingly as well as the carburetor heat just in case. This is in -14 degree Celsius weather though and I like to fly low and fast once I get her flying well and trimmed out.

very good video. But sometimes the pilots legs and a map is simulated and sometimes not. Why ? Is this a AddOn ?
i like the noise of the startup but idling speed is a bit to smooth, imho. i heard the P51 many times in real and yes at idling it´s a bit more raspy and louder, especially when it´s cold. Some backfires would be nice too at landing and throttling back !

I am learning to fly with this plane (since it is free) but it is always very unstable especially in the air do you have any tips?
