Dive deep into the intellectual legacy of Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz with "The Mill Argument: Leibniz’s Most Influential Contribution to the Philosophy of Mind." This video explores one of the most challenging and thought-provoking arguments in the history of philosophy, which questions the very nature of perception and consciousness. Leibniz's insights, presented through his famous Mill Argument, argue against the notion that physical processes alone can account for perception, suggesting instead that true consciousness might lie beyond the material realm. Join us as we unravel this complex debate that spans centuries, linking ancient philosophical inquiries with modern discussions on artificial intelligence and the hard problem of consciousness. Engage with us as we delve into a philosophical journey that challenges the boundaries of mind and machine.

I'm lost. Is a mill a thing that is known to be a thing that can "perceive"? We could build an artificial brain and it could conceivably have an artificial mind. I don't get the analogy. We're just saying, "well if a mill cannot perceive and an ox cart cannot think and a hammer cannot sense, then these functions must be extra-material." That seems like an odd conclusion, no?
