RULES:
The rules are the same as regular chess, except for these changes. For a refresher of those rules, check out this video. During setup, place white’s pieces on their opponent’s side of the board. On the 8th row from left to right place: rook, knight, bishop, king, queen, bishop, knight, rook. On the 7th row place all the pawns. Mirror this setup for black. Player’s pawns are still traveling in the tradition direction, so all pawns will start 1 space away from promotion. Your pawns may only capture and move towards your opponent’s side of the board, therefore en passant is not allowed. Since at the start of the game all of your pawns are blocked by your own pieces, the game always starts with a knight move. You can castle like normal. The first player to checkmate their opponent, wins.

According to Stockfish 14, it's +7.76 for white in the starting postition due to white's advantage of moving first. The only difference is that both sides can't castle in the position fed to stockfish, but I think it won't make much difference.

An easier way to play this variant would be to set up the game as normal, but to state that pawns move backwards. That way it’s effectively like all of your pieces are on the last two ranks, but you don’t have to reach across the whole board to make a move.

I like the fact how this chess mod easily changes the flow of the game from developing and trading pieces to slowly racking up your wif- I mean queen army then start trading pieces.

En Passant isn't technically forbidden, per se, just rendered impossible due to the setup.

I used to play a game like that in Hoyle Majestic Chess. Man, that can be tricky without engine assistance.
