I had never heard of this tragedy until I took a Sikhism class at university. I'm really glad the Prime Minister apologized for this.

I honestly expected this title to read: Justin Trudeau apologizes in the House for the 1914th time over elbowing incident.

How many times does Canada have to apologize for that 1914 event?
Let's make it an annual event!

"Thanks to pressure from the Indo-Canadian community, the federal government issued an apology in 2008, and in 2012 a monument to the ship was placed in Harbour Green Park. Komagata Maru"

How long will we allow the truth of our history to be buried under foreign labels, knowing full well it is Guru Nanak Jahaz, not Komagata Maru, that carried our ancestors’ courage across the seas? Every time we default to this imposed name, we silence a part of our identity. It is a silent admission of defeat—a choice to bow to narratives that have nothing to do with who we are or what our Babey stood for.
When we say Komagata Maru, we compromise. We tell our children that convenience is stronger than conviction, that it’s easier to inherit names others gave us than to defend the ones that carry our spirit. Are we, as Sikh Canadians, so comfortable with these borrowed names that we no longer feel the burn of what it erases? If we continue this way, we have no right to blame any external forces. This is our history, our responsibility, and we alone have the power to restore it.
The name Guru Nanak Jahaz isn’t just an historical correction; it is an act of Chardi Kala, of unyielding pride and defiance, a reminder that our legacy is ours to protect. So why do we shy away? Why let comfort keep us quiet while our history and our values are diluted with every repetition of Komagata Maru?
Let’s stop hiding behind excuses and restore this name with pride, with purpose. To continue doing otherwise is to dishonor the very courage we claim to celebrate. Our history is not a relic to be passively preserved—it is a call to act with the same fearlessness that defined those who stepped onto that ship. So We ask: will you reclaim Guru Nanak Jahaz or continue to let it slip away? The choice, and the responsibility, is ours. @highlight @followers @commenters
