That last scene is my favorite. Even as he’s chiding Akira for caring for a pet, sheltering it from the rain, he himself is doing the same for Akira, a human. Akira gives the umbrella to the pet and he in turn gives his umbrella to Akira.

You wanna know something i thought of?
When Ryo wakes up on the mountain, he was laying down, crying(but somehow only Akira could see that) and he was looking at Akira with such suprise when he held his hand.It was the same mountain(in the same atmosphere) where he was when the Akira dies and he was crying, scared of what happened to Akira.

From there onwards is also the part where he starts to remember his life from..which can mean looking at Akira hold his hand(indirectly pass the baton) made his life kind of have meaning.
<It is said the brain deletes information it stops thinking is concerning to it>

Also, he wasn't actually crying but when Akira hugged him there his eyes looked a mix of dead and relieved as if he just woke up from a scary dream...

I'll go cry now, sorry if there is something you can't understand.

We didn't realise how this scene was important to Ryo all along until the very end. Only then he realised what "You're crying too" meant.. Too late however

Reasons why Ryo from the manga is better

1- Ryo from the manga would never hurt animals

2- He loves animals and nature (he had two pets, a dog and a canary )

3- He has emotions unlike the one from Crybaby

4- He wanted to destroy humanity because humans destroy nature
