This beautiful song by Aretha brings back fond memories of Love Ones Lost Along The Way, like my Mom, I am Forever Brokenhearted, It Seems Like Only Yesterday 😢

Was 12, maybe 13, when I heard this song. I cried then and I still cry now.

Wow! That is absolutely gorgeous. Heard this for the very first time in 2019. Think it's going to become my all-time favourite Aretha song. From 1965 - long before she was famous.

Whenever this very talented icon opens her mouth I am so touched. Her music reaches deep in my soul. I ask God's blessings on her in this hour of her sickness.

This was one of my staple 'sing around the house' song as a child! Love, love, love it! RIP 'Queen of Soul', you shall be sorely missed!

I love this song. I do not know why I am only hearing this right now. But It is ironic that sad song like this makes me very happy. Always an Aretha fan.

The Queen is dead, God Bless the Queen. This was done when she was very, very young. Listen with awe. I used to sing with it, now I cry with it.

The best years of my life were my undergraduate years at Dillard University in New Orleans (1964-68). “Sweet Bitter Love” and Aretha Franklin will remain ever mindful of those influential years.

Thanks for this, I had forgotten how much I was touched by this song when I heard it as a teenager, one of the greatest renditions ever recorded. Still touches the soul in 2018!

This song brings back bitter memories. Leaving War in Vietnam on the big freedom bird this song played as we lifted of the ground.
Only to arrive home without a welcome or my wife to greet me
Then tell me to go away the same evening.

I grew up on this song. My father (RIP) played the heck out of this song.

The original...excellent. Amazing that a singer like Aretha Franklin didn't find success at Columbia Records. I don't know what they did wrong except for maybe just not matching her up with the right material. This one was a winner -- this should have been a hit for her. Miraculously, she moved over to Atlantic where it really ignited.

Just an aside -- Aretha got into an elevator back in the 60's and standing beside her was Dusty Springfield. She turned to Dusty according to witnesses -- and Aretha said to her, you realize in this business, vocally, you are my sister. What a compliment. And for those unfamiliar with Dusty Springfield -- she was a powerhouse vocalist as well. I admire Aretha for that since it isn't brought up often.

Whose song is this originally? I’ve heard a few artists cover it 🤔
