Great videos. I recently bought a UV sterilizer of a different brand for my chronically algae infested tank. Within one week, the water was CRYSTAL clear, and I mean crystal. I was so impressed that I bought a second one for another one of my tanks, and am getting similar clearing results 3 days into use. I will swear by these from now on. Great addition to my tanks.

Hi John iv been a waste water operator for 20 yrs at a plant that treats 28 million gallons of sewage a day in our plant we use uv sterilisation to kill fecal coliforms which is disease-causing pathogens. Since we swithed from gas cl2 to uv our fecal coliforms have stayed pretty much zero.this works great in aquariums especially for African Cichlids since they produce alot of waste and they sift throughout the sand. Since iv been using uv in my tank it works great for the most common killer of AFs parasites. My AFs never get parasitic infections since iv started using the 18w or better uv sterilizer. What a money saver if you have a tank of $50+ fish in it. This product pays for itself with in 3 months. Sry for long comment you and lisa are great.👍👍

excellent review. exactly what i think of this product so far. i'm also using it on a discus tank just as extra insurance/security that i'm providing the best quality of water i can to my fish. HOB filters inherently have more noise relative to water level as you stated. The one negative that I'd include is if aqueon and ALL HOB manufacturers is to extend the outlet of the filter to minimize the drop off to the surface level of the tank water to lessen the noise.

dude it is so awesome that you made this video about this. I've been researching UV sterilizers for two weeks and the only things you can get are in lines which seems like too much of a pain in the ass to hook up to my fx6 plus there is too much flow or gigantic in the tank sterilizer I came across the hob uv and there's only two videos on YouTube about it and they aren't very informative. thanks for helping me make up my mind I'm getting this one

I have this sterilizer and it works well to clear up the water. It's quiet as long as you keep your water level high. Very sturdy product, it feels well constructed. My only complaint is that it gets clogged easily and I have to clean it monthly at a minimum.

the benefit of having seperate plugs is that you can turn off the uv light while you keep the pump running. anytime you add bacterial products to the aquarium, you should turn off the uv light for about 24 hours so the bateria have a chance to attach wherever it needs to otherwise the uv will kill the bacteria. but if you also turn off the pump for that time, it will usualy collect gunk and when you turn it back on it will come right into your tank thats why i keep the pump going to prevent gunk buildup.

Nice unit John I like it. I have a uv sterilizer in my canister filter and I don't run it 24/7. I notice you was touching the uv light with your fingers they say don't get any finger prints on the light. Anything in the manual about that. Thanks for the review.
