This is an Unboxing of the Nikon Z6 II (FULL PRODUCTION UNIT), Nikon Z 14-24 2.8, grip and side by side comparison of the Auto Focus with the Nikon Z6. This is a FIRST quick-look at the Z6 II while we prepare to take it into the Real World for some actual photo shoots.

There were 5 gigs of files so a ZIP file wouldn't cut it this time.

What would you like to see me shoot in the REAL WORLD to review the Z6 II????

Nikon might not have leapfrogged the competition with these updated bodies (not sure why so many reviewers seem to expect this). However, they are now producing competing bodies with class leading image quality, with an associated lens line up which is quickly growing and proving superior in nearly every aspect, and doing so at a better price point :)

bottom line, the camera is fantastic. It's color science FAR better than Sony. And unless I am shooting a boxer or football action .. who bounces around like that ? I have a D850 and the Z6 both are fantastic machines with beautiful glass and color.

Fro, when you do the full test of the Z6ii, please maximise the autofocus capability. You do this by:
1. Change menu A3 (focus lock on) to 'quick'
2. Change menu G4 (video af speed) to +5 (fastest)
3. Set 'when to apply' for item (2) to 'always'
4. Change menu G5 (video tracking sensitivity) to 'high'
This will DRAMATICALLY improve the lock on and focus tracking in all autofocus modes, but mainly in AF-C. Two of the above settings are for video, but for some reason they transfer over to improve the focus of stills as well.
This will, however, make the changes in video focus really snappy, which I don't find to be a problem.

So, in case I want to photograph people jumping around in the streets like crazy and focus specifically on one eye in high fps, it ain't perfect.

Who cares about the real life comparison? Just sniff it, Jared, and tell us the winner... 😉

To me it looks very reliable. I have Canon R5 and Sony A9ii. Yes, their autofocus is better but for me Nikon ergonomics and colors are way better in my personal opinion. I preordered a Z7ii and can’t wait to test it out

At 12:20 your statement was unfortunately incorrect. Z6ii doesn't automatically switch from subject tracking to face/eye tracking. Your z6 was set to subject tracking and your z6ii to face/eye tracking. Just pause it at 12:23 and you will see that.

This was a decent preview. Though from the initial look doesn't seem like a drastic difference, but hey, if the hit rate is good and you are getting above 90% in focus consistently, then its working great. I don't think there's any camera with a 100% hit rate. I don't think above 90% (whether it is 90 or 95%) it makes a huge difference anyways. If the A7III with 10 fps get 95% in focus and z6iii with 14 fps gets 90% or 11-12 in focus, that's still more pics in focus for the z6ii.

Why this man is so crazy about the speed of focus? I love the image quality delivered by Nikon, better than Canon and Sony and the focus speed is excellent to

Hey Fro, I couldn't tell if it was just the overlay but it seemed like when shooting the Z6 ii was initiating face/eye whereas the Z6 was only doing the redboxes but when not shooting they were doing it at similar times.

I bought the Z6 earlier this year as a lighter weight alternative to my Nikon D850 and pro quality F mount glass, mostly for travel (how’s that working out for me? Thanks for nothin’ 2020) . I actually love the camera, and the images I have captured with it. I will not be going for the Z6 II, as the differences are not significant enough, given my use case. However, because I have now invested in the lightweight and really good Z glass S primes and f4 zooms, I have pre -ordered the new Z7 II. The D850 is, and might always be, my favourite camera, but my aging back may push me to almost full time mirrorless sooner vs later. By the way, this 🇨🇦 calls it a Nikon Zed 6 II . Cheers.

I don't really give a toss about what Sony and Canon cameras do.

I have a Z6 and im getting the Z6ii. I'd feel more secure during weddings with two slots, and ill just use my Z6 as a second camera.

Can you use the new lens with the old camera and the same- can you use the new vertical grip with the older camera (and do the new features work?)

That battery extension with live exchange capabilities is seriously cool.

Nikon Z6 II AF is clearly better but not by much, because Z6 is already really good. Z6 II will definitely be more future proof with firmware updates improving it even more overtime, plus not to mention all the other improvements over Z6. For anyone that already has Z6 though its probably not worth the upgrade, but for anyone else looking for a new mirrorless camera or making the jump to mirrorless for the first time then you cant go wrong with Z6 II.

I am looking for a mirrorless camera. Was originally trying to decide between the EOS r, a7ii, and z6. I want something more future proof and most of the things that were strike for the z6 are now not an issue. Since I'm starting from scratch, I feel like the z6ii is a great choice, especially for the price. I thought I wanted a canon, but I don't like anything in the under $2000 range, or at least not more than the Z6ii. Feel free to throw some opinions at me(politely plz).

people seemed quick to complain about the Z6/Z7 having only one slot and yes they took 2 years to fix that but at least they listened to the consumers, and bare in mind that Sony took a whole 5 years to add dual slots to their cameras… plus i think the autofocus speed is very dependant on what people are going to be shooting, if you're doing sports or wildlife it might not be right for you but for everyone else it's plenty fast, i've shot with the Z6 and never had a problem with it

...this is gold.. ! I shot cheetah hunting impala last year in Africa, and they didn't bounce left and right as fast and unpredictable as you just did :) After watching it over and over again, to me the hit rate of the z6ii seems to be well above 80%, if not more. Compared to its competitors, fact that the z6ii has bigger MP and priced way less than the R6, ...also being a much newer camera and have a much bigger range of lens choices (Z and F mount) vs A7iii, the z6ii sound like a keeper ! Thanks for the video, probably I would finally jump into the mirror-less system !
