Like a whole different hurricane in St James City

Catastrophic damage in any directions, homes shredded. In hurricanes construction codes matter. Older mobile homes on Pine Island and St James City didn’t stand a chance.

My whole family lived on pine island at one time. Everyone left except my one brother. He rode out the storm in the home he built 50 yrs ago. It's still standing but he had 4 ft of water in his downstairs. House was elevated and on stilts. Thank God they are safe. Imagine losing everything in your 70s.

I have to tell you Jonathan...this was one of the most effectual, heartfelt, sincere presentations of ANY that have been made on recent hurricane disasters. Your feelings come through 100%
and I don't know if you are or not, but some news agency ought to grab you and put you in front of the masses. Have learned from viewing your presentations and thanx.

Most of them are probably retirees, who worked their whole lives to finally retire to the one place where they didn't have to put up with the snow, ice, and bitter cold. As someone who is almost retired, I understand, if it means 5-10 years living in Fla it was all worth it. Oh and yes, I grew up in Florida from the age of 5-6, I had 3 children born there, no matter what, the memories are worth it. Thank you for sharing, I pray for all of them.

Stop building homes on the gulf coast and expecting the rest of the country to bail you out.

A bit on the dramatic side. They'll all be back like before. Every place does after these events. Those places look like they fared well compared to others in the area.

These people have no Insurance because the Insurance Companies will not insure a Manufactured or Mobile home that is older than 15 Poor Insurance Companies These people are alone and homeless and on a small pension.

This is one 1 of the reasons my family and I chose to move to Arizona instead of Florida last year!! I love the Salt Life, but the weather is to unpredictable and costal living is paradise lost. So sorry . Take care jennxx

I have friends in St James City. Same for Matlacha.
They knew they were living on the edge to be on the water.
That was their homes. All they had.
Those were two of the few places people on modest retirement incomes could be on the water.
And Pine Island is in Pine Island Sound. Protected by the barrier islands of Sanibel, Captiva and Cayo Costa.
Which don’t help much with a direct hit from a category 4 hurricane.

That’s not true, those mobile homes you can gut them and rebuild them or scrap replace with new. Think of the positive opportunities put people to work . I can tell you I’ve been through the same situation in my past.

A lot of those held up well. The carports are what are so dangerous and not made for high winds. Manufactured homes are just like wood homes. And even concrete homes cannot combat MOLD, which is the biggest concern after the water recedes. The humidity in Florida is insane which just breeds mold in closed damp spaces…

Mobile homes do not work in hurricanes and should not be replaced.

A lot of "minimum wage" workers who have homes they can afford - "service" emoyees of local businesses who cater to those tourists & vacationers who save & work hard for a well deserved vacation in a beautiful area of Florida. Workers at grocery stores, gift & retail shops, gasoline stations, waiters & waitresses, bar tenders, Cafe & restaurant employees, school teachers. The people who work here are NOT wealthy. And lost everything.

Lived on the coast time to face the facts U CANT LIVE ON WATER ON COAST AND EXPECT MORE THAN 10 years. People only fool themself. Best some even think they can ride out. 1963 these islands were only fishing camps. Best is to own one on wheels and then pull it out of area.
