Anna Maria Island was not “completely destroyed” as you claim. This video is nothing more than click bait.

The person doing the videoing says, at the start of the video, that he drove around Anna Maria Island *before* the hurricane hit. Part of what he was doing was collecting footage of homes that were standing prior to the hurricane, it can be used as evidence for insurance claims. (That's a decent thing for him to be doing, on behalf of homeowners on the island).

Thinking some of the posters below might want to go back and re-listen to his video. What is left afterward can be confirmed once law enforcement have gone and found people who perished in the storm surge and collected evidence and once cleanup crews have gone through. I'm going to wait and see what video evidence shows post-hurricane before assuming anything else.

Personally, I'd never live this close to a huge body of water like that, but that's me. Thank you for the footage. It was interesting to watch.

I lived in Bradenton back in the late 70’s. Watching your video brought back memories. The island has been built up tremendously since then.

Just drove around talking about destruction, while showing no destruction 👍

Obviously, you're NOT an American. Some people have NO WHERE to go. Some are too old and can't avoid to live in a hotel for a week. PLEASE, respect other grown-ups decisions. That's TRUE FREEDOM, living or dying by your own decisions.

We are heart broken. This was a gem - we’ve been going there for years for the winter. We will never find a place like this

My Grand Parents had a condo there we used to visit as i was a child. The beauty of this place was something that cant be put into words. This is another piece of my heart ripped out.

Very beautiful documentary showing this island before it was destroyed. Glad I got to see what life looked like there. Thank you!

In Venice, FL the locals keep saying there are ancient Indian burial grounds nearby that protect Venice from total hurricane destruction.
AND many people actually believe and swear this superstition is TRUE!

This reporter is so self-righteous. I guess he has never made any wrong decisions.

You do great work! The news didn’t act like it was going to hit here. My mom didn’t believe me until she was kicked out of her condo- then she got a hotel room near the water as well. She’s ok but it could have been a lot worse. She was told she could come back tues. She was able to stay by the mall because she was kicked out of the hotel near Van Wezell.

I survived Katrina, in Mississippi. 32 ft surge. Why islanders would not evacuate is beyond crazy. The folks who stayed in K all dies, except 2 I knew who "swam" for 8 hours. My condolences and heartfelt empathy for all that just wanna go home again.

Nothing south of Tampa was "completely destroyed"...yes, many properties took on water, but the structures are still there- intact. Stop exaggerating.

My daughter and son work for Lifeline Ambulance of Michigan. Their team has been deployed to help in the aftermath of this hurricane from Tennessee south. And yes people, never a good thing to think you are going to ride out one of these storms. My daughter has seen too many non-survivors because of this. They also transport the bodies.

I like what the Taylor Co. Fl. Sheriff said for those who defy a mandatory evacuation, too please write your name, birth date and address on your arm with permanent marker to make it easier for them to identify you when search and rescue find your body

It cannot be an easy thing for the authorities; Police, National Guard, etc to have to go to the houses that they KNOW did NOT evacuate.
When they get there, both the house & Vehicles are washed away; (and/or underwater). Or the house is completely missing altogether! The searchers then know that more than likely, that stubborn individual is somewhere in the Ocean, or caught up in debris somewhere on the island.😔 The most terrifying way to go for those who stayed HAS to be by getting trapped in the Attic, trying to escape the Storm surge!😳 Thats sadly where many of the Victims are found! Lastly I heard that the Hurricane shelters will not accept the Homeless in Florida ( not even elderly homeless, or those in Wheelchairs). Wow! Whats wrong with the people running the Shelters? Some homeless said their only choice was to enter abandoned properties, and try to weather the storm there. Hope they made it!

That’s a lame video. Annamarie Island is almost not even affected by covering something that’s newsworthy

We have enough drama queens; now we have a drama princess with a misleading header. I'm glad there is no damage, but you have a lot of nerve talking about folks leaving their cars, no matter how expensive, and trying to make this about a class thing rather than your misleading title, 'Completely Destroyed.' You should be ashamed for having folks nerved up about Anna Maria Island. JS. GG Texas.

We lost everything last month but we were able to clean up. There is no cleaning up this time.We had 5 ft. of water inside our house and lost everything. We have lived on Venice Island 4 years and our house had so much damage the city inspector said it will be condemned. We have been staying in a hotel since Wednesday.
It's time to move inland. My thoughts and prayers go out to everyone who lost loved ones and have been affected by this hurricane. We will get through this
