This video includes some tips for the many PC gamers out there who get motion sickness or simulator "sim" sickness while playing video games, especially those with a first person view (like FPS games). Enjoy the games you love without barfing!

TL;DR: (a) play in windowed mode with a small window. (b) decrease mouse/camera sensitivity (c) increase field of view (d) play as much as you can handle increase tolerances.

This video is less useful for console players who might have less display options available. For you guys: just sit as far away from the TV as you can.

When I was younger I used to enjoy Minecraft a lot, but now I can't spend any longer than maybe 20-30 minutes with that game or else I feel nauseous, get sweaty and my head hurts horribly. It really sucks, because they have added some new features and I'd like to try them out. Adjusting FOV helped, because before I'd feel sick after just like 10 minutes :/. But it's only with FPP games, League of Legends is fine for me for example.

For us ( people that have motion sickness ) 60 fps, or at least 50. Fov 90 or higher. Play with lights on. Turn off motion blur. All thoses tips work for me, but not in one particular game ( bioshock :( ). Ty for the video!

This helped me a lot. I usually play only fps games for 5-10 mins. But following the tips you gave here, I can play at least 30 mins to an hour. Many many thanks.

Just finished an hour of Rise of Tomb Raider and feel like throwing up. I'll take your advice and play out of fullscreen mode. I admire those good for nothing gamers who can play 24 hrs straight, some of them do die while gaming, still it's a feat.

*Tips* for when you are already sick.

These are weird, but they do seem to work, or at least they do for me.

Do these steps until you feel better.

1. Replay scenes from the game you have been playing in your minds eye with your eyes closed.
2. Imagine you are in 3rd person or first person of a fighter jet and do barrel rolls in your minds eye both left and right.
3. I have found some real world videos of people drifting cars in first person actually make you feel better.

While these don't fix the problem of motion sickness in games, they do let you get back to gaming or make you feel better faster. It also helps prevent migraines as a result of motion sickness. It would be interesting to see if any of these methods actually work for other people (they might not). I would encourage people to experiment further to see what works for them.

You should start to feel relief instantly if it is working, however it can take five or ten minutes before you are feeling 100 percent; depending on how severe the motion sickness is.

I'm just coming across this video and I hope your advice works for me. It's been weird because I used to be able to play pretty regularly without getting sick not so long ago, I was able to complete the resident evil 2 remake multiple times and nothing happened, but now trying to play the third one has been an absolute nightmare. Thanks for the information!!

There is a tip which I am not sure but I think would work.
In the real world when our eyesight moves from one object to an another it is done with the lightning speed. And in the meantime while the process of moving the sight from one object to another is in the progress the mind completely discards all input taken by our sight.

For an instance, My eyesight is looking at the object A. Now it wishes look at the object B. For that to happen my eyesight has to move from A to B. Now the eyesight begins to move towards the B and my mind has shut down taking and processing any input from the sight until it reaches to the designated point and that is the object B. Now as soon as the sight reaches to the object B the mind starts back it's taking inputs from the sight and processing it. Just call the input that was taken by the sight but rejected by the mind while travelling from the object to the object as Input_X. And call that travelling of sight from A to B as Travel_X, and the object B as the designated object.

No matter how great or small this Travel_X is, the above mentioned phenomenon will occur. We could even see that when the Travel_X is too great (e.g 180 degree rotation) some people would shut their eyelids momentarily to help discard the Input_X while some people would keep their eyelids open and create temporary few designated objects while doing the Travel_X.

Now with the above theory, when it comes to video games we do this Travel_X much and take much of this forbidden Input_X. And as a result we are faced with motion sickness.
Do these steps...

1) Use Keyboard+Mouse so that your Travel_X could be lightning fast.

2) Try avoiding any of the Input_X. The less Input_X your mind processes the less motion sickness you will have.

3) Keep the motion blur on which would help to discard Input_X while you are in Travel_X. Motion blur would act somewhat like our eyelids.
