I’m a fan of JBL. I’ve been using JBL studio monitors for 20 yrs

I have been using JBL-HDI 3600 running with Yamaha R-N100A for 6 months, they are very good for listening musics and watching movies. Then I bought JBL-HDI 3800 it’s bigger in size. Between this two speakers only slightly different not much. Size wise I do like the JBL-HDI 3600 because the small and beautiful . JBL-HDI 3800 massive . I’m living in London, the house are small in sizes so I do prefer the 3600.

I have the HDI-3800s for about two years now. Powered by Marantz AV7701 pre-pro and MM7055 amp. Not a hint of sibilance. None. Nada. Tweeters are virtually non-existent .. which is exactly what you want. Not forward, no beaming, .. perfect. As a bonus I’ve been delightfully surprised by the extended bass response from the triple 8” bass drivers. I often listen to them for days on end .. I’m retired so ….

Your term such as “little nuggets “coupled with “ time domain” help me understand the characteristics of this speaker. Additionally, the words “presence” and “fun” are great descriptions that I heard when you did the sound commentary. Excelent review! Listened to it in a shop. And was so supprized that i cant get them of my head. Loved them very much. For the price it offeres would like to compare to kef R7, polk r700, klipsch rp6000 mk2.

I’ve had the bigger brother HDI 3800’s for about 3 years now, and they are fantastic speakers 🔊🔊🔊
The best way to describe the sound is “big” and “full bodied”. Loads of clarity and detail, but not at all cold or analytical. Forward but not bright or in-your-face. The midrange and mid to upper bass really stand out to me as it’s strong suits. Bass drops off below 40Hz, but produces most musical bass just fine except for the lowest bass notes like a pipe organ. I highly recommend them.

All of the drivers are mounted very near the edge of the cabinet and there's a generous radius on the edge. With that in mind I would expect these speakers to disappear in a listening room. Good review altogether.

great review! your description of the bass with these JBL....seems similar to what i heard on the Elacs Adante AS61. bass notes are clear, but the initial transients of the bass (for example in an upright bass) are slow and muffled. you want and crave for those transients when you are listening for example to a full orchestra and those upright basses, bassoons, tubas need to cut through.
that's a deal breaker for me....

I appreciate this review. I was close to ordering Klipsch. Something reminded me of seeking a 3-way speaker like my very old JVC set that I lost in a fire. These sound close. Those JVC's were perfection.
