RIP Little Richard. I think this version is recorded with the Johnny Otis band. I also like the longer cover that Sugarcane Harris did with the Mothers of Invention.

first, he invents rock & roll; then, on a whim, he invents Otis Redding and Sam Cooke in under 3 minutes

His 3rd version, cut at the New Sun Studios, in Memphis, Tennessee, USA, on 1 January 1966.There’s a shortened, but stereo pressing in The Wild and Frantic Little Richard album !

I dig Little Richard and I dig Frank Zappa - and I never had any idea that this was Little Richard.
Back in the early sixties I got into trouble for not making it to school when the folks went out to their jobs .... and I stayed home and played Lucille all day until it was time for the folks to come home, and I'd go out and pretend I'd been at school all day. Now I think of it, as much as I always dug Little Richard - and Zappa much later - I never realised that Zappa took this song from Little Richard. Hell, I've just had a Zappa afternoon; now it looks like I'm going to have a Little Richard evening.
She was there before anyone. Before Little Richard, Chuck Berry, or anyone .... Sister Rosetta Tharpe paved the way. More than anybody, this great lady created an idiom.
Little Richard would not have been Little Richard without Sister Rosetta; he would've been someone else. As significant as Little Richard is in R'n'R history, Sister Rosetta is far too under-recognised.
