No wonder why ducks look like they're always having so much fun. It has to be awesome to completely submerge yourself in water and not get wet.

Can't belive duck feathers are so insensitive to the struggles of water. End all hydrophobia

I like how the word hydrophobic implies that the object it's describing is deeply afraid of water, so it stays dry no matter what.

Not just duck feathers. This is called "Eiderdown." They are the down feathers of a specific duck. The Eiderduck.

That's the feather from common eiders, called eiderdown, they use it to make really fluffy and warm duvvets. But all duck feathers are hydrophobic

Somehow the water being that clear is incredibly satisfying to me.

Those are actually DOWN duck Feathers. Those feathers are found closest to the duck's skin. They're meant to insulate and keep the duck dry, but the outter feathers do actually get wet.

Their feathers are very waxy/oily in order to repel the water. I remember doing a science experiment in elementary school where we made paper boats and colored the hell out of them with crayons before placing them in water and they stayed afloat for a long time compared to the uncolored ones.

Fun fact: duck feathers aren’t hydrophobic but ducks have oil glands that produce oil, the ducks take this oil and put all over there feathers that keeps the feathers dry because oil and water don’t mix

That’s funny. Those feathers don’t look like they have anything to fear from water.

I recall learning about Duck plumage in grade school. Something about the oils in the feathers that makes them less absorbant and buoyant
