Fargate if cheaper for scheduled tasks that run very infrequently (once every x hours) and require a large allocation of CPU and memory compared to other tasks. You can mix EC2 and Fargate in this case. EC2 is much cheaper (10% of total) for spiky workloads and for cases where you have many tasks where only 10-20% of the tasks are actually busy. Management of EC2 is not full time. The bulks of the work is command such as tasks and services management, network, load balancing, monitoring etc.

For those that want a straight answer: in most cases EC2 capacity provider is 10-20% of Fargate. You should not do a normalized comparison or 1:1. If you do then the cost is the same.

at 04:35 some said that "i can't scale jenkins in k8s". currently i'm having a Jenkins master in ec2(t2.medium) and dynamic slaves connected to aws ECS(Fargate). i have scaled jenkins this way. By any chance is this approach a good one? i'm concerned with the cost associated with fargate . i'm using 4cpu 16gb ram config in fargate.
