Here is how you draw a Dodecahedron. It is one of the 5 platonic solids. The ancients described the platonic solids as the perfect 3 Dimensional forms. They are said to form the foundation of all the physical world. The others being the Tetrahedron, Cube, Octahedron, Icosahedron.

A lot of help thanks! Can't believe this is the only video about how to draw a dodecahedron!

I can't believe how precise you are. I have to fiddle with my ruler for every line. Sometimes I make a compass hole just for precision. I'm going to start posting I think; I really admire your work!

hi there, i am feeling good again. i did not see this stuff since the 70's when i was in high school in metallic structures, i used to enjoy all the drawing class all the technical drawing.
i got lost many years i feel i want to re-learn this i have been watching your drawings and it feels the pleasure again… thanks for doing this.

can't wait for my new compass to arrive, the 550 02, i believe... the micro-adjustment wheel really gets me excited!!
my ruler was delivered in 2 days, stainless/cork-backed/made in china with sticker on cork weeee... just leave the sticker there, trust me. 18x18 drawing board with clips, hand-hole and rubberband to hold paper... electric eraser ftw.... I should look for a really good protractor, but, knowing how to draw anything with just a compass and a straight edge is THE SHIT.

Why??

Because with a compass and straight-edge a person can pretty much build literally anything. It's as useful a skill as knowing how to start a fire.

some tips:
Most of the circles are not needed.

You just can use the center-circle to create theese straight lines in 60° angles and then take a length you like (for sample 4cm) and put it twice as points on each of the six direction-lines.
Theese points are all you need for the following steps (after 2:05) in the video.

Or you can draw a very big circle (for sample 16 cm Ø) and then divide the distance from the center-point to the outline by two on each of the six directions.
So you can use theese points and the intersections on the cricle´s outline for the following steps.

With both of my sample values the finished drawing will be 8 cm high (after erasing all surrounding guide-lines).

When are you going to finish this playlist of the other solids. It's been several years now.

How do you figure out all these methods to drawing geometric shapes? I'm impressed!

Using multiple circles is ok but too much work. I make one large circle, then make a hexagon with that circle. Then I connect each points making a merkaba, and then line connecting each point on the merkaba. These lines dividing the merkaba in half intersect at the smaller hexagon inside the merkaba perfectly in half. Connect all outer points on the outer circle to the halfway point of each side of the inner hexagon. And the final step to get a dodecahedron is to connect the small outer edges of the docecahedron to form a decahedron.

I see a couple of comments that the angles are not proportionally correct. Does any one know whether this was a problem for the ancients, or whether the ideal of a form, as an expression of sacred geometry, took precedence over the form as it appears in this world? In other words, was drawing the form in this way a method of meditation on the perfect form?

Did you make videos for the construction of the other solids? Looking for one on a octahedron at the moment!
