I love to see flight in slow motion. The flight of any animal, insect or water falling for that matter. Slow motion or UltraSlo motion gives you incredible insight of movement. There are some nice shots in this clip.

I once had a stupid teacher who kept telling me that bats are blind, while even the books we had for class clearly stated that they are sensitive to light(yeah, you need to have sight for that, can't be sensitive to light if you are blind).It's obvious they use echolocation to help with hunting and seeing in the dark, and not because they are blind, but because it's just hard to see in the dark over great distances.I even had an argument some some geek that had grandma glasses, with the processing power of a dead plant, who also kept telling me that bats are blind, even tough he knew that they were sensitive to light and had EYES ! I mean. I mean, you don't need more proof for this other than knowing that they are sensitive to light and have eyes.

One of them got inside my house and flew around. Luckily I managed to catch him inside a jar. But as I observed him, I felt sorry for the little bugger as he shivered and shook in the cold, so I let him go inside an abandoned house. Yeah people call them disgusting, but hey, don't blame me fore being an animal friend...

Bats that use ecolocation are not fully blind, nor is any other bat, they can see water, bugs appear as a blur with little detail, i doubt a completely blind animal would live in the open, most blind animals live underground or deep in the pits of the ocean.

I helped a confused Bat at work tonight. While making my rounds, ( I have to check on an area of chemical storage tanks and in a lower work area for storing smaller welding gas tanks and such, it's about 20 feet down to the bottom), but it is a seperate concrete "safety" zone. I saw a Bat flying around in circles in an odd pattern. While watching the Bat's erratic flying behavior, I realized it's sonar was off-TILT. The way the concrete chamber was built, there are multiple hard surfaces and angles that would just register as to what they are, a blank wall=No Prey. It couldn't find a way out and the more I watched, I realized the Bat was panicking, obviously the primitive feeling of being trapped. Hoping it would respond to noise, VIA sonar, I made noise above, cheering it and clanking on the metal railing with my keys. Whether it was my keys, voice, flashlight, or any combination, you could almost see the lightbulb go off in the Bat's head when it realized where I was. It decided to finally just fly UP and into the Night's sky, ready to eat mosquitos! I believe in helping all of GOD's creatures Big and Small, (except Mosquitos and Ticks, I draw the line there!)

Water surface is not usually smooth. there's wind, currents, all sort of disturbances... ripples everywhere.
Sometimes it is, yes. Sometimes.

I think they are just trying to understand what is that.
We too use our tongues when we want to understand something. It's standard behavior for a mammal.

I think they would recognize flowing water as well. Whether or not they would drink from it, is another thing. I wouldn't know.

Heh... the bat licked the metal plate. Seriously though this is very interesting especially the fact that this trait is hardwired.
