I've use a zoom R8. Smaller than a laptop, has 8 tracks, can record 2 at a time. Built in drum patterns that I prefer over a metronome. Built in amp and cab' simulators. Records directly to a flashcard.

Love the setup! I'm a minimalist musician, myself. There's something special that happens when you eliminate the over-abundance of options and all of the gear you have to carry, set up, and maintain. You have to focus so much more on the creativity and playing because there are less distractions, burdens, and expenses. I think everyone should give it a try to challenge themselves from time to time.

My live rig is an Esquire straight into a Carr Rambler cranked to 10. Portable and lightweight rig. I get the touch-responsive power tube overdrive, spring reverb for a bit of ambiance, and tremolo to give the sound some movement. Everything I need! I'll probably add a Line 6 HX Stomp to the rig soon for even lighter weight travel and for home recording simplified.

I feel like recording equipment is pretty similar to guitar in a lot of ways- fancy expensive equipment is great but more important is knowledge of the gear you do have and talent at the source

This is for the Android users out there. I use a DAW for Android called Audio Evolution Mobile, along with my Zoom U 44 or U 24, or also with a Zoom F1 with a stereo mic. I think it works great for my needs. I hope this info helps other Android users. Thanks for the great videos Mary.

I'm still using a Line6 JM4 looper for on-the-go recording. Not the most versatile, but contains amp and effects modelling and recording in one self contained unit.

Besides my laptop, I love bringing my Launchpad Pro for travel, because in addition to being a clip-triggering device, it doubles as a roughly 4 octave MIDI controller with velocity-sensitive keys. And it's small enough to fit in a backpack. I also can do my mixing using my MDR 7506's. And I just purchased a decent lapel mic, so that gives me a bit more wiggle room. So, my mobile rig is decently flexible, considering how simple it is.

My minimalist setup:
Steinberger Spirit GT-Pro Deluxe (blue, them keeping score at home)
Bandlab Link Analog Interface
Shitty 25 Quid Condenser Mic
LG Stylo 5 Phone

That's it, minus the cables, and the cheap Tascam headset that zZounds threw in with an order that got delayed. Everything fits in the Steinberger gigbag. Don't get much more minimal than that. I use the Bandlab app on my phone to record. I can pull up everything in the browser on my computer when I get home. I use Cakewalk as my main DAW (have since Guitar Tracks 2.0) at home anyway, so using the Bandlab app *seemed* like a good idea at the time. Just like using their interface *seemed* like a good idea at the time.

Not saying it's good, not saying it's bad. Just saying it's there. And that recording onto an Android phone probably isn't the best thing in the world. But eh, you pays your money and you takes your choice.

I use a GPD pocket (v small windows10 laptop) with Ableton on it and a Boss Micro BR80 (multitrack recorder) which can be used as an audio interface and has good quality built-in mic(s).+guitar + Gopro or smartphone if I wanna video.
