Oxygen is as essential to seedling roots as water.

Comment BLOCKER and I’ll DM the link to learn & soil block.

Overwatering and/or under watering is a common challenge in all methods of seed starting. I found the soil blocking method of seed starting to be the easiest for me to get it right.

“Watering” is about more than just how much water and how often.

It’s also about the soil, the tray structure, and air temperature. Overwatering leads to water logging and prevents the presence of oxygen in the soil.

I use blocking mix (recipe always on website) that is alive and breathing, yet retains moisture.

I use flat bottom trays with no holes or ridges and with a low lip. The low lip allows max air circulation and makes pouring off access water easy. Flat bottom doesn’t trap water. Never leave standing water.

Room temperature when starting cool-season annuals is hovering at 70 degrees fahrenheit and warm-season annuals 80 degrees ++. Air temperature impacts how quickly the soil dries out and vegetative growth.

My goal is for the blocks to be dry each morning (as in video) and ready to be watered again.

I water early each morning so my blocks face the day well hydrated. As the day progresses into nighttime, they are getting dryer and getting more and more oxygen, they complete the dry out overnight. Come morning, they are thirsty and happy when I greet them to water.

At what point do you bump them up or place in the ground?

If those seedlings grow up too quick they will essentially break themselves in half because they’re too skinny to support themselves. the light might be too far away causing them to grow up faster than if the light was closer to them. Good luck and I’m only trying to give advice.

Looks like they are stretching for light.
