"One measure at a time" is the most important context you can add to "I learned a Charlie Parker solo at 10 years old." Really shows the importance of learning slow

Your dad has good taste. That chorus from “Now’s the Time” is probably my favorite solo of all time

Awww that’s great me at 25 learning about the history and starting to play guitar just recently i transcribed some bird and it really healed a lot of my childhood traumas and now I’m learning sax to really pay my dues..

My teacher in 5th grade did the same with me but with Chi Chi. Awesome story that I can relate to!

Thanks for sharing. 🙏 I agree with that method of learning for anyone any age trying to transcribe a solo on an instrument 🎷. So much to learn 😌

Chad's dad was the first to introduce me to jazz when he was still teaching at Horseheads.

I believe everybody's got that time when they tried to take on a song that is way above their pay grade.
i remember going way to far and trying to play a transcript of wynton marsalis' improvised birthday song. i should've pushed it back till I knew my major scales at the very least, it was still fun learning experience.

That lick is also used in Wardel Gray's "Twisted blues", I love it...

I had no idea you were in Birmingham a few weeks back, you should totally come to Tuscaloosa for Univ. of Alabama’s jazz department sometime 😂😂 anyway, I’m a massive fan of your work and take a lot of inspiration from you in my own sax playing.

Maybe the best? Absolutely the best! You have no idea whatsoever. I have been in the company of some the greatest saxophonist ever and let them tell it there will never be anyone close. Then comes Dolphy on alto. We already know who owns tenor .The Trane.
