Can you briefly explain when to use this key group method and when to use pad perform?

For example, this method for bass lines and pad perform for chords?

Sample release is set to ring out but when I switch to keygroup it cuts off when I release the pad

I'm going to be in FL Studio for the next 38 years sampling C notes from all my favorite VST's to bring them in to my MPC X.
I really hate the fact that I can't use Nexus, Kontakt, Omnisphere 2 etc. on my MPC X without using the stupid DAW! I'll guess
I'll just have to fork over a few hundred dollars on some of the VST's that Akai has to offer such as Fabric XL.
