Scooter Fail : Got Gear Oil? Destroyed Parts

In all the years of oil changes, gear work, etc... I've never forgotten to refill with oil or gear oil... until today. Have a look at what happens if you forget to refill the final drive transmission of your scooter with gear oil. At least nothing jammed up and caused the rear tire to lock, so it could have been worse.

Thanks for admitting your error in order to help others not go down the same road. If it were me, I would have just replaced the gearbox and said nothing to no one, ha ha. Very surprising that it lasted 17 miles though...that might make a good ad for someone.

Thanks so much. Now that I ride my scooter all the time and I'm about to turn 63 years I tend to forget too much. I still have my off-road Suzuki 400 DRZ and a racing sym with a stroker 125cc but my go to bike is a 4 stroke with a big bore kit 51 mm.

It takes a lot of heat to make metal blue. Better to forget oil in the gears than oil in the gas. Lol.

I almost did the same thing after rebuilding the motor on my restoration project. If I didn't notice I never opened my new bottle of gear oil, I probably would have ruined my brand new upgraded final drive gears.
