This is definitely one of the most diverse metas we've had in this game. It's cool to see people top locals with other leaders like Chopper, Foxy, or even Uta! Not only should this game reward skill expression but to be able to do it on one of your favorite leaders is so rewarding, rock paper scissors we think is a healthy state of the meta since it keeps you on your toes as a player when you're going into larger tournaments and really forces you to play at a top skill level to overcome even your losing match-ups

NGL our locals became so diverse, its just fun. Saw that teen boy ripping apart a lot of duffy players( which are still the most common around here on bigger events) with his Foxy. Guy won the tournament and I could only feel joy for him. Playing a lot with Sabo and Rosinante myself there, with varying success and other people experiment a lot too. I love it.

I'm very impressed with how well balanced the game has been overall. Bandai is doing a pretty impressive job so far, banning when needed and printing cards to support struggling archetypes. Looking forward to what they will do with op11 and beyond

As someone who just started playing, i cant speak on past meta, but I'm definitely enjoying playing the sim a lot! Other than vs. decks like the
B/Y Luffy, Blackbeard, & Rob Lucci. Its not even that I'm losing vs them every time, its just not enjoyable to play against and that sucks:\

Also I just wanted to say thank you for your videos on learning to play the game, they have helped me so much! because, unfortunately its been incredibly hard for me to learn the game, being that i live 4 hours from the nearest LGS that has OP tournaments, and i couldn't find anyone willing to teach me haha. I've never played a TCG before this either so i really started out in the dark.

As this is the first and only meta I've played in, it seems fine as a beginner. The best decks generally needing to be played really well means that it doesn't always win at smaller tournaments due to the drop in skill of the more average player. I will say, coming from playing some other games at a top level, having no idea what other top players are going to be running as their deck and/or decklist makes preparing for tournaments really difficult. Especially in an unfamiliar or chaotic meta, the the top players have to spend way more time and effort finding what's good, instead of just practicing the known best deck over and over so some of them may not even be as practiced or prepared for some of the more wacky ideas that can pop up.

Yeah it feels very balanced, doffy pulling ahead a bit but overall matchup data from the sim is looking very good

With gecko, all the black leader builds basically became a sundae but with different toppings. Glad black beard finally brought a new build for black but still annoying. Also glad waifu boa is now has a viable build

I sort of understand the point about the issue with there being so many decks running around. It's not the diversity itself, it's the polarising match ups that come with. Take doffy for instance, I can tech my smoker deck really well against doffy, but i will get destroyed by decks that go tall and have a better top end. Alternatively I can tech my deck to do much better against the top end decks like shanks and pluffy, but then I make the doffy match up so much worse (and then to deal with blackbeard i have to structure the deck completely differently again to not get totally screwed by his leader ability). So instead I have this half way house, that's just alright against everything but not great against anything, which at least in terms of deck building is kind of frustrating as I can't even play the averages and just accept I am going to lose to a small number of decks and be good against the majority. Where as if 2/3rd of my match up was aggro, I would just tech against it and not have to worry about it.

with that said, current meta is alright. I play a rogue deck and pretty much disadvanted against everyting currently meta haha, but at least there's diversity which I personally enjoy. But looking forward tbh im dreading the potential of a yellow dominated meta with Enel and BY luffy etc in OP11 (that new zeus 2c is just dumb). Like full disclosure I don't personally like playing against it anyway (reminds me of mono blue in mtg which i also hate), even when I win, i'm less happy and more just glad it's over haha. But I think a yellow dominated meta would get old really really fast, it's a slow grinding death, you really don't want that to be your most prominent deck. I might be worrying about nothing, but I don't know, the stuff they are getting looks pretty meta defining to me at least.

As a player since op02, I believe that the only card that I would ban is Pudding (character), because it gives a random advantage to doflamingo against those decks that need their handside to survive the endless agression that Doffy presents.

Nonetheless, I believe that this is one of the healthier metas that I've played so far since 4.5 when they momentanely banned Newgate and some cards from RG law.

I'm inclined to agree because of how many cool fun decks are out there. The problem is that Black is in the game.

Black single handedly is warping the game around itself. So many decks can not effectively compete because of how dominant the color is. It has hand disruption, removal, and grave recursion in a game where the dominant resource is the # of cards in hand. Black is so good that its best counters require you to also be in black.

It makes zero sense to me why people aren't recognizing that the rest of the colors are still playing catch up and is what is causing every deck to need a Jinbei or to fight on an axis that black does not have access too like purple and yellow are.

I hope Bandai recognizes these problems and takes proper actions soon, like after worlds, and tries to remedy it with something more proactive than a leader and a stage ban. I honestly don't think the OPtcg game itself can keep taking hands-off approaches without implementing rotation or something of the sort after year 4 or 5.

In my opinion, “pro” players in a diverse meta should be able to learn the strengths and weaknesses of their deck, good and bad matchups, and tech their deck accordingly. This requires more time practice skill etc, but isn’t that precisely what should be rewarded? The arguments against a diverse meta to me come off as “pro” players under the status quo who don’t want to be challenged/displaced at the top if they aren’t up to the challenge of practicing enough. Ultimately, also I think it is more healthy for the card game to be an environment where more people can win
