Owning property isn't just about yourself. It's about providing a place over generations for the support of your family. It is easiest to do this starting on cheap country land. Don't sweat property taxes and other things, those complaints are more sour grapes of peasants.

Buys an apartment. Wants to paint the door. Can't paint the door because it's not allowed by the condominium. Smiles cause it's only 27 more years until you finish the mortgage.

We can't teach people about generational wealth Luke! They might start to realize that they can be way more independent than they've been told.

it's better to call it just prepping rather than doomsday prepping, because doomsday implies it's only for some very rare super bad event like nuclear war, when infact prepping helps with minor and VERY common problems, like the past few recessions including the one we are going in now, the food shortages during lockdowns and the food shortages we are going to have over the next year+ and of course the current fuel shortages or the summer of peace etc, You can prepare for events like this that will happen many many times during anyones life, the focus isn't prepping for armageddon

My parents keep pressuring me to take out a 500k loan to buy a 2 room soy apartment. No way. 2 room apartments cost from 800k to 2 million in Australia.

Family collectivism is often overlooked be people in our circles, but it 's the most immediate and practical form of collectivism. Instead of the individual being the primary economic unit, we should return to seeing the family as the primary unit.

You're right Luke! I'm not drinking the corn syrup. Thanks again for all the work you do and I'll see you at the Artix compound

this is very true, I have noticed a trend even in first generational city dwellers who moved to the cities that their priorities are most often on the individual level, only revolving around themselfs while people who are from villages/rural areas look at things on a family level
I assume this is because in more rural areas people are more directly depended on one another in the family, for example if you plan on growing something like tomatoes or potatoes it often takes a group effort to make it sustainable, while in the city you go to your job, your wife goes to hers etc

I bought a semi-suburban house in the UK because the mortgage payments were literally £200/mo cheaper than rent. The plan is to sell up next year and use the equity to get a plot of land.
If you can get mortgaged for a cheap house in the interim, it can be a good way to build equity instead of tossing money down the drain. A fixer-uper is a great way to learn how to manage a home and maybe turn some profit as well.

Over in the Netherlands you get taxed 40% of the market value of whatever you leave your children to inherit.

This may work in a country like the USA. In UK, don't be tempted by the "quaint villages". These are like living in a HOA on steroids.
Very hard to find land that is truly yours in the UK. Maybe the Highlands, but then you have to worry about the SNP.

I used to want a condo because you can get one close to the beach, and travel and know that the condo will be relatively safe. However as I get older I will never live in an HOA community. Also the condo collapse in miami made me realize that many of these condo buildings have deferred maintenance and you are basically at the mercy of the condo board. Living on your own land is extremely based. Ideally in an unincorporated area so there are very relaxed building codes and other regulations

Just bought a house in the country side. It’s not much with only an acre of land, but I can pay it off quickish and rent it out to get my dream country estate.

Feels good owning the place I lige

In Spain you cant legally live in your land. It has to be "urban" land. And the goverment says what is "urban" and "not urban", thus you can only legally live in cities or villages.

I think it's a long shot these days. Kids usually want to go do their own thing.
It almost always ends up with the heirs cooperating just long enough, without killing each other, to chop it up and sell it.
Preventing that kind of collapse would make for a very interesting discussion.
