The Mystery of the Black Sarcophagus

In mid 2018 archaeologists made an astonishing find in Alexandria, Egypt – a huge black sarcophagus – at the same time anonymously looking, but huge and apparently the last resting place for some important person. But who? This is the story of the mysterious black sarcophagus.

Ancient History makes illustrated short documentaries about the history of the ancient world – from the beginning of civilization to the fall of western Rome. (However, I don’t guarantee that I won’t do some excursions to the Byzantines and other intriguing aspects.)

It seems to be such an unusually heavy sarcophagus! I wonder if there was some symbolism to that, as if the occupants were considered taboo or unholy in some way. Needing to be contained and separated from the living forever more. But then, I suppose they wouldn’t open the sarcophagus twice more would they, if that was the case? So mysterious.

What I find really intriguing is that nasty water was pumped out onto the street, where people were walking thru it and all. I was kinda shocked actually.

Good questions, we have the why’s now what other tests could be done? Was it very common to have multiple bodies together ? What does the black stone signify ? What made the liquid toxic? If it was acidic the bones would have destroyed right!
