I’m pretty sure Petey’s skull is a fan edit. I can tell because I’m looking it up, and there are several different versions where he has his regular face.

The Petey from the original show was killed in 1930, being poisoned by someone who we believe hated his owner. However, Petey from the movie died in 1946 at the age of 16 years and 4 months old from old age. He was buried at Los Angeles Memorial Park in Calabasas.

Rest in peace, Petey (and all his puppies that would fulfill their father’s role). You all are heavily missed.
