This video explains the meaning of supports when added to structures and shows what are the
different types of supports for beams and frames.
The difference between a roller support, a hinged support and a fixed support is explained.
The video explains why reactions are generated in supports and what are the types of reactions that are generated in each support type.
It shows briefly the principle used for calculating support reactions.

for a roller support, how is the motion restricted in the x-direction when the applied force is causing pullout of the support?

Assuming I am designing a reinforced concrete buildings with 2 or more units attached together. Say I have a continuous supporting floor slab. Are all the supports design as fixed supports? How about a timber building, what type of support will a continuous beam used?
