As a former Greyhound driver I wouldn’t enforce those rules. It’s not worth angering the passengers. I got out a year ago after being screwed over by Greyhound one too many times. Good riddance!

As a former Greyhound driver from 1981-1985, I can tell you that this plan is simply not workable. If the company wants to hire an attendant/conductor to manage that nonsense, more power to them. Personally, I don’t care where you sit.
It doesn’t matter to me now. I switched careers and became an airline mechanic. I make more money and I don’t have to deal with people.

I am blessed that Spirit, Frontier, and Amtrak exist. I had to ride Greyhound a few years ago as my car was getting repaired and I needed to make a quick trip to Pittsburgh. That was the worst experience of my life. Greyhound was great as a teenager in the Navy, but as a 40+ year old man, they can keep it.

Greyhound WAS! One of our main transportation companies in our country - Greyhound had no business selling the company to another country - Now a German company owns it and NOW, New Jersey and Philadelphia NO LONGER HAVE A BUS STATION!. People are standing on the streets to wait for their bus, NO PLACE TO SIT OR GO TO THE BATHROOM OR REST UNTIL YOUR BUS COMES - ... absolutely horrible! Transportation EVERYWHERE has gotten so messed up it's pathetic - People need to contact state and government officials and make huge complaints about this - this is horrible - I've never seen something so damn stupid!

I'm 51 and have been taking long distance busses from NY to Massachusetts all my life. Always taking a back pack, but what board room fool came up with this new rule.

That is going to cause a lot of headaches for the driver.

IMHO they ruined Greyhound after the 1989 strike. Before that, tickets were good for any departure within 30 days of purchase, and you could go partway, take a stopover, and then get a later bus to continue on. I used to break up long trips that way, only being on the bus at night to sleep. Really made it more tolerable....

I had paid for a reserved seat and the driver wouldn't do anything about it. I don't think the driver will do anything about it come February.

I could be wrong, but I’m pretty sure they tried this in Canada, and ridership dropped. There were no overloads, so once a bus filled up, that was it. I used to drive for Greyhound in Canada in the 90s and it was an open-seat, first come first serve loading, and we added overload buses as needed. It was a flexible system that was run based on ridership needs. When the successor to Laidlaw Inc., took over, reserved seating system was implemented and that was the beginning of the end for Greyhound Canada, in my opinion. You need to operate a public bus company based on demands of the ridership. No corporation is going to sway the trends and needs of the travelling public.

Was a greyhound driver out of Seattle when that was being implemented. We were told to be strict about bags, seating, and on time departure. Nothing else really changed for drivers. We still had complete control over our bus and didn't have to take abuse. In fact during that time i did refuse a gew riders because they thought the rules didn't apply to them. Key thing when dealing with greyhound, flix, cantrail, ect. Being nice to the driver is highly recommended when you don't meet all the rules.

Flixbus uses assigned seating in theory, but enforcement is patchy. I can confirm that in Poland, no one cares about what seat is printed on the ticket, but in Mediterranean countries this is strictly enforced.

I see it as restrictive and a cause for tension. I rode greyhound from 1989 to 1994 it was ok. I don’t like how times have changed for the worst.

Who here remembers back in the day on the school bus, you had an assigned seat? Brings back memories don't it? 😉😆😆

Really like the chanel👍😊. Convenient way to stay current on all things Greyhound 😊. Just wondering if the new company can offer a bag rental for passengers who only have trash bags for their stuff. Maybe rent out lightweight bags for a small fee. Something like a gym bag in 3 sizes. They can slip there trash bags inside until they reach their destination and drop them off at the rental counter

Red Arrow bus (operating in Alberta, Canada) has _always_ had assigned seating. This carrier is also more expensive than Greyhound (which no longer operates in Canada, anyway) and was marketed towards business travellers.

I do not recall ever seeing someone bring garbage bags as luggage, so I have no idea if there is a specific rule about it.

I drove for Trailways for 6yrs in the Midwest not enough money to put up with what you have to most days went back to driving OTR I was pretty lucky as I only had a couple incidents with passengers in that time.

I'm glad that I don't drive Greyhound buses anymore but I feel bad for all my fellow employees of this company because they gonna have to deal with this madness even more but I would continue to wish all of y'all well on this journey. Thank you for sharing your take on this topic Keywan aka Bus Driver Life!

Kewan, I think you are right: it is the drivers who are going to be taking the heat for the Friz's ideas. Not sure I get the assigned seating for intercity buses. It will make it easier for people getting on to a bus that is continuing on a trip, like central California to the Mexican Border, taking on passengers at Bakersfield, Northridge, LA, , San Diego, etc.
