My State Float Project by Noodles @ erictheelephant channel

Some teachers are requiring a State Float as part of the State Report project in 4th - 6th grade. This video shows a Massachusetts State float made by my wonderful daughter, "Noodles."
From my teacher's perspective, in my class, I think it's wonderful if parents help their child through direction with projects and homework. I consider this heirloom thinking processes that should be handed down from one generation to the next. I used Noodles's project assigned by her teacher, as an opportunity to teach her crafting skills such as embroidery, sewing, and hot glue usage. I demonstrated and explained fixatives and the characteristics of materials to lead her into the design phase with greater understanding. This project was created with her hands and heart. I assisted with problem solving the ideal materials and techniques when needed.
Materials for this Massachusetts State Float:
Base (does not need wheels): Shoebox covered with black construction paper
State Bird: Felt, thread, needle, polyester fiberfill stuffing, pipe cleaners for inside armature of bird and bird feet, attached with popsicle sticks inserted and hot glued to base.
State Tree: Felt, thread, needle, polyester fiberfill stuffing, pipe cleaners (a lot of them) for inside armature of Elm, attached with popsicle sticks inserted and hot glued to base.
Cranberry Juice Can: Candy Soda Can container, paper, colored pencil, packing tape
State Flower: Felt, pipe cleaner, hot glue
State Seal, Flag, Mammal, Insect: Blank Index cards, Color pencils, hot glued to base
I recommend hot glue for just about everything, and I definitely prefer Color pencils when doing formal high quality work.
