How can you work out the value of a business?

So I'm entering into the sharemarket with avarage knowledge of the sharemarket,
I'm looking at diversifying into 5 sector's of blue chip shares for dividend and franking credits for the next 5years while studying and growing my knowledge.
Then in 2025 I'll start buying a couple of growth shares.
Is this a good way of entering into the sharemarket?
