📷🌙 How I Built My Own Night Vision Goggles For £200

Just a quick tutorial showing how I built my own night vision goggles using the Caddx Infra FPV camera and a old pair of analogue FPV goggles. Please note that the Caddx Infra camera is a near infrared seeing camera, but not an actual infrared seeing camera, and therefor it can't see in complete pitch black. It can however see in EXTREMELY low light!

Bro, it's wild to live in a time wherein if you think of it, there's already a video about it. The convenience of just searching your idea on Youtube and instantly getting a tutorial is nuts. Cheers!

7:30 Hey Giz! Instead of internal goggle mods like this, another option might be to just add an external boost converter to bring the module voltage output up from 5V to 12V for the camera. They cost like a dollar on AliEx, and are tiny. And put it all on a pin rail so you could quickly swap between FPV and night-stalking :-)

Some tips for anyone trying this, based on my experience: use wires no thicker than 22 AWG (that’s what I used and it was super tight). Remember to disconnect all power sources before starting, especially the 18650 bay! DO NOT solder anything until you have the wire routing sorted out. Also, thread the wires through the “exit” hole FIRST, i.e. insert from the outside world into the hole in the module bay, and work backwards to the solder points (it’s way easier than the other way around). It’s likely you will have to loosen the 2 short screws holding the top section in place, two screws securing the circuit board, and at least one screw holding the fan. Finally, if using Cobra X v4 goggles (not v2 like in the video), plug in your battery with the barrel connector and test with a multimeter to confirm which solder points you are using - the component in the v4 circuit board is slightly different to the v2 board shown in the video: of the 3 lower big solder points, far left is ground and far right is positive (middle is just holding the component in place). I soldered the yellow wire to the middle pin of a 3-pin header instead of inserting the yellow wire directly, and just snipped off the excess bits - it’s much more secure that way.

I mount the infra camera on my skyzone SKY04o pro with yellow signal cable and power the camera with balance lead. Thanks for the video man!

Was shopping for NVG. Until I saw this. Thanks bro. You should add affiliate links to these items.

For the Cobra X, since it has a 3.5mm A/V jack, could you also crimp the signal and ground wire to an A/V plug instead of dealing with the module bay?

Amazing well done 👍 . how might this compare with the OG runcam night eagle camera?

Hey man I built exact set up now! I love it. The headset says it has the option to record audio do you need an external mic for that?

So this goghas has a voltage step down if you feed it with a 4s battery?? Mine is working with a 18650 battery... or it get a step up???

How does the camera latency hold up with speed? I'm hoping to push the goggles to 50+ mph (Sorry American) with an illuminator. Poor latency would be less than ideal for my purpose so just trying to get an idea 😊

Hi, i am trying to connect infra caddx camera directly with goggles x. i found you did similar thing on your video Night Vision Goggles. can i ask you about few details? i am not good with modern communications not sure how to reach to you. my stuff: caddx infra, goggles x, extension board (neccesary for analog -> digital)

I'll use my runcam nighteagle, but wireless. I don't like to disassemble my cobra x. Merry Christmas

Hope to get a response when wearing goggles where do you place the battery powering the camera. I’m gonna build one already ordered camera

If you have to plug the goggles into a 3S or 4S battery anyway, would it not be simpler to just power the camera from the battery’s balance lead?

Your project is truly inspiring—great improvisation! I’m excited to create one for myself and would love your insights on a few questions to help guide me:

Goggle Quality and Night Vision:
Does the choice of goggles significantly impact the quality of night vision? For instance, would using high-end (expensive) goggles noticeably enhance the clarity or performance?

Analog vs. Digital Goggles:
In your experience, does it make a difference whether I use analog or digital goggles? Which option would you recommend for optimal results?

Suggestions for Improvement:
Are there any specific tips or recommendations you can share to help me improve or refine this setup?

i was so into this until you went internal adding a battery etc, with a shovel or a hammer im like a human j.c.b. but as soon as delicate technical stuff rears its head im absolutely useless, id mess it up, but cheers MINT IDEA. so good i subd.cheers.
