I NEVER pre-order Mario games - I pre-ordered this one. Why? SPECIFICALLY because Luigi is an equal part of it and not just some sidekick. Yes, Mario is the mascot of Nintendo, but I never saw Luigi as his lesser in any way. In fact, it's really odd that he's treated like second banana so often when he's so clearly *better* than Mario. He really is. Think about this: in a platformer series, the ability to jump IS your worth. LUIGI can jump HIGHER than Mario AND get more airtime. Luigi is taller than Mario. He seems to have more HP than Mario at base. He's STRONGER than Mario -and how do I know? Because his jumps are significantly higher. To jump higher, you must produce more force against the ground to push off - and coupling that with Luigi being noticeably taller than Mario with an otherwise similar build, he also WEIGHS more than Mario, which makes his higher jumps all the more impressive. Hence, he IS stronger. Luigi is braver than Mario. Mario is FEARLESS - that's not the same as brave. Bravery is being AFRAID and still facing your fears head-on, and that's exactly what Luigi does, time after time, without fail. The guy walks into multiple places filled with all manner of demons and ghosts and ghouls and rather than leaving, he STAYS and deals with the threats on his own. The guy is VERY brave. Oh, and he's SMARTER than Mario. Notice it's Luigi Logic, not Mario Logic, that gets you out of situations.

So yes, Luigi is the superior of the two. Where Mario is the fearless, bold everyman who rushes head-long into every situation, he lacks any real substance. What's Mario's personality? He's....well...Mario. He jumps and goes wahoo. That's. About. II. LUIGI on the other hand actually HAS a personality: he's nervous about a lot of things, but will go to the ends of the earth for those he cares for, including Mario (who himself has been saved by Luigi). He has a surprising competitive streak on the race course (we all know that meme GIF of Luigi giving the side eye like "bring it"). He's silly. He's funny. He's clumsy, yet surprisingly agile and NOT clumsy when he needs to be, almost as if he's doing it on purpose in self-deprecating way so that Mario can have the spotlight. He stands ASIDE so his brother can have that spotlight, and never hungers for it. Luigi is in other words the best brother in the WORLD.


So, why WOULD he be Mario's lesser? He's never BEEN. He's better, an only his own lack of confidence in himself holds him back. THAT might stem from way back in Yoshi's Island, when Luigi was kidnapped and held captive as a baby while Mario got to go on an adventure with a bunch of Yoshis. That SAID, I think it's time for more games where LUIGI is the lead and MARIO is secondary. The brothers should even things out. They're the Super Mario BROS. - it's not just Super Mario (and they're the Mario Bros. because their last name is Mario too, not because it's Mario's name - they're Luigi Mario and Mario Mario). Honestly, that'd make me so happy if Nintendo did SUPER LUIGI WORLD - a solo 2D platforming adventure in the style of Super Mario World and Yoshi's Island. I'm glad we aat least get Luigi's Mansion, but I want to see him on his OWN adventure where MARIO is player 2, not the default.

Speaking of modifying Mario's attacks and Luigi's attacks and stuff, I really hope they bring back the stat bonus wheel after every level up. I loved Paper Jam, but I missed having the wheel to try to get lucky with getting extra stats.
