E-scouting for deer is one of the best ways to become a more efficient deer hunter. Whether you deer hunt on public land or private land, being able to look at the map and have a good idea of how deer will utilize a property is a huge benefit. Map scouting does not come naturally to everyone but it is a skill, and just like any skill, it can be learned and developed. Stop hunting blindly and having brutal seasons of constant failure. A side note to pressure. Make sure there aren’t unmarked roads back onto the public land that come from another direction. Last season, I walked a half mile in to a dynamite spot along a lake edge only to find a truck parked at the end of the meadow I intended to hunt.

The best overlooked areas are often the property running along the road leading into the parking lot. People want to walk into the woods a few hundred yards until they find sign and set up. They rarely if ever go towards the road they drove in on from the parking area. If there is a thick area that may hold bedding it can be a gem hiding in plain sight..
