When elected to the Senate in 1836 Pierce was certainly not the youngest U.S. Senator ever to be elected at that time 18:57. At least three younger Senators had come before him all of whom did not meet the Constitutional requirement of being at least 30 years old. Henry Clay of Kentucky for example was elected and seated in the Senate in 1806 at the age of 29.

I own three Franklin Pierce biographies and I’ve visited his grave. I would love to make a movie about his life. His time in and out of office and his conversations with Lincoln are very very interesting.

Overall, his life and Presidency are worth telling.

A brigadier general who fought in 5 battles in the Mexican War and as president was responsible for the Gadsden Purchase which is a 30, 000 sq mile stretch of land in present day Arizona and New Mexico

Fillmore, Pierce and Buchanan were indeed poor presidents. They have not been scapegoats. They pushed bad policy positions and made a bad situation worse.

We are a bit 166 years too late to worry about what sort of president he was He did his best at that time He had a sad life He lost his 10year old son weeks before his inauguration He lost 2 other sons and his wife was a troubled woman
