In about 1969 I was a U.S. federal agent and was trained in the Identi-Kit. As I recall, we were told that it was not an identification tool but an exclusion tool.

The killing in a shop prompted me to revisit one of the biggest memories I have of one summer in the early 1980s. I grew up in Joliet, Illinois, and in the summer of 1983, the town endured a serious of completely unconnected murders, including four women slain in a ceramics shop on a Saturday morning. The National Enquirer tabloid called Joliet “Terror Town USA” that summer. Turns out that the murders were connected by the serial killer who committed them. Milton Johnson was suspected of 14 murders that summer, and convicted of five, including the ones in the shop. He had been sentenced to death, but all such sentences were commuted to life imprisonment when the governor got rid of the death penalty in the 1990s.

A friend of my mom’s had been planning to stop by that shop with her son that Saturday morning, but things got busy and she skipped it. That close call haunted her for the rest of her life.

One of the best channels on Youtube. Really well researched, written, and communicated without a bunch of extra bells and whistles that often taken away from other creators' videos.

Such a sad tale but told with so much respect and taste. Love your work Paul ❤

I love the old photographs that always accompany your stories, Sir. So respectful-looking, so buttoned up and wooly, so dignified.

Which, by the way, is a description of your own appearance!

We could do with a bit more of that here in America.

That's amazing how adding the theft of a 15-pound item elevated his sentence from 25 years to death!!

Wow. I often go to Cecil court, especially Watkins books. I didn’t know it had this history.

Very solid account - I had never previously heard that Bush considered himself to be white. He was conventionally described as Eurasian at the time - but then colour distinction was such a crucial thing in the caste system and it may have been all he had to cling onto in the wretched life he had led

Always pleased to see another there’s a new “Well I Never”. There’s nothing like cuddling up to a chilling tale from the best dressed gentleman podcaster on YouTube.

Its weird that murder is max 25 years, but adding robbery onto makes it the death penalty.

Paul you are absolutely the best at telling these stories! I just love looking at the old black & white photos of people bc it seems like you can concentrate on the whole face instead of being distracted by so many colors.
Happy 4th of July to all those who celebrate this special holiday! Blessings always Paul & staff! ❤️🙏😊

Thanks for another great video Paul! (And for my 'well I never' patch that arrived recently)

Its strange Paul, that a vile, horrible and totally unnecessary crime can seem far less repulsive when narrated in your precise vocal cadence. The torment and fear involved in these dreadful crimes, converted to fact, by a strange emotive narrative, for me, makes it far more intense, far more memorable. Keep on Paul.

Hi Paul, I was born in 1959. I didn’t know that Identikit went back that far. It’s interesting that the images created with the kit are often so close to the actual person. Perhaps, by focusing on individual parts of the face, it is easier to remember the image as a whole. Also, the witnesses who produce images close to the criminals would likely make better witnesses in court. Thank you for this interesting video. ❤

Fascinating, as usual. I've spent many hours in Cecil Court browsing the Prints and Maps.
