“Welcome to GNU/Linux, where the words are made up and the pronunciation doesn’t matter.”

I’ve found that people are more bemused by it being free than by the vernacular surrounding it.

Hey @Distrotube, the way that you pronounce things is fine. Trust me, as a Brazilian living in Glasgow (broken English for life) I find your accent very refreshing, specially the way that you pause between words and always state things very clearly. I couldn't care less about how you pronounce a few acronyms. Keep up the good work!

Anyone saying that Linux is "just a kernel" needs to take a look how well the GNU Hurd project is going. OS projects can be difficult and it takes a lot more than add on software to be successful, but a support and development ecosystem. I'll keep calling it Linux.

Thank you for this! I've been wondering about GNOME for years, but I've never looked into it until today. I much prefer pronouncing it with a silent G as pronouncing it with a "Guh" sounds like I'm about to throw-up, but I will try to retrain myself. LOL. Your channel is always helpful!

Nevermind, all know what we mean, regardless of pronouncement(s). Keep on doing the best Linux channel by far.

One hundred percent with you on this. People need to respect these names more and pronounce them as intended by those who originated them.

This made me feel better, knowing someone who actually knows what he's talking about, feels this way too. Very funny. Enjoy your shows. Keep up the good work for as long as you enjoy it. Thanks

Let's get a few things straight:
1. "mierenneuker" is a Dutch term. Literal translation: "antf**ker".
English equivalent: nitpicker.
Meaning (wikipedia): fastidious, meticulous attention to detail, the term has become appropriated to describe the practice of meticulously searching for minor, even trivial errors in detail ... "nitpicking" may be a pejorative term for troubleshooting, proofreading or similar, whose excess could be a psychopathologic form of criticising, see hypercriticism.
2. Your contributions are to the point, very informative and easy to follow, content is top.
3. You've got a pleasant voice, good intonation, extensive but not pedantic vocabulary. Very important in order to keep attention during some longer or more complicated parts or subjects.

So, thank you!
That's about it.

I was very surprised when I first learned the proper way to say Qt.

I always thought it was sort of a play on words:
Qt
Q. T.
Que - Tee
Cutie
As in, "Oh check her out. She's a cutie."

But no, it's pronounced as "cute". Talk about a missed opportunity. I wonder if the developers ever kick themselves for that.

piece of advice bro.. just don't listen to those criticizing this stupid stuff... if you do, while your channel gets bigger you will end up closing it because this is just feeding the trolls.. and only God knows how many trolls are there on the internet... keep the good job.. if you were not doing good, your channel wouldn't be growing.. cheers

Actually this was very informative, especially for a foreigner like me. I pronounced everything right luckily. And by the way you now can see how much easier is to be a blogger than a youtuber lol

Linux is not just a kernel
Words are descriptive, not prescriptive

And while the word Linux may have started being used to just describe the kernel, now it is being used to refer to a big family of distributions that use the linux kernel and other tools, one of the many thousands of which just so happens to be GNU, which may have had greater importance in the past, but as time goes on that importance is lower and lower

Also, the reason why Linux cought on, is that its just a catchy name, and long complicated names that might even be more accurate, usually arent catchy and people dont wanna use them.

Its not called NT/Windows or Edge/Windows for a reason

Who cares how you say it as long as someone knows what you mean? I never call it Guh-nome, I say it with the silent G. I've been using Gnome for almost 20 years, LONG LONG before YouTube was around and you could actually HEAR someone use the word, so it's hard for me to break the habit. If you want something pronounced something a certain way, then spell it like that. Until then, I'm Dorian (Pronounced J-oh-n).

I don’t care what they say Guh-none sounds ridiculous
