A caper white butterfly in Adelaide

Did you know that butterflies don't actually eat – they drink! But their babies, caterpillars, do, and they can be really fussy.

If you spot a caterpillar munching on a plant in your garden, consider whether you might be happy to share for the potential reward of a butterfly later down the track.

Here are some other ways to make your garden butterfly friendly:
- Reduce chemical use.
- Have flowers in your garden year-round.
- Leave some bare ground, ideally in a spot that gets wet, so they have access to water (yep, that’s a thing).
- Provide rocks for them to warm themselves on.

Adelaide is home to many butterfly species. This one is a caper white. There's lots around at the moment, so keep your eyes peeled.
