Pyrrole Disorder & Stress Induced Personality Changes

In this episode I discuss Pyrrole Disorder - a common biochemical imbalance in brain disorders caused by an excessive production of HPL (a hydroxyhemopyrrolin). A hallmark of Pyrrole Disorder is poor stress intolerance. Other common symptoms can be social avoidance and/or temper outbursts. In this episode I'll answer:

What are pyrrols? How does an overproduction contribute brain symptoms? What are the symptoms and traits (brain related and physical that can be seen) in adults and children? How can we become "pyrroluric"? How can I test my pyrrole level? How is Pyrrole Disorder treated?
From the Walsh Research Institute of over 30,000 patients with brain disorders:
ADHD - 18 % (18% of individuals diagnosed with ADHD had elevated pyrroles)
Behavioral Disorders - 28 %
Autism - 35%
Depression - 24%
Bipolar Disorder - 35%
Schizophrenia - 30%
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder - 12%
Alzheimer's Disease - 14%
Healthy Controls (no psychiatric symptoms) - 8%

Pyrrole Disorder... I have only heard this term very recently. In fact, it has been discovered decades b4! I particularly find it wonderful that those many symptoms & lifestyle practices early in childhood match mine! Yes, wonderful! 🙀🙀🙀

I’m in a constant state of extreme stress. My doctor wanted this test done. And a methylation panel however I can only afford this one. I’m excited for this test as I may finally get answers. Stress management though is going to be a tough one for me.

Dr. Synder, when you are re-testing HPL from DHA labs, do you have the patient continue on their usual dose of B6 and zinc? Or do they stop the supplement a few days before retesting?

Great video. I just got my daughter tested by DHA, and there seems to be a little disagreement what is high or pyroluria. According to the lab anything above 10 is elevated, 10-15 being borderline. But according to many other places I've found online up to 20 is within the normal range and only 20 and above is elevated. With the result of 19 it can be normal or elevated depending on who is right. Is this something worth pursuing as a cause to the symptoms, or it's most likely too low to be a likely cause? I heard pyrroles can get as high as 100 in some so pretty obviously high but not sure what to do with the value of 19.

Hello, Great podcast! You made a comment about omega 6 and omega 3. My omega 3 was in the high range without supplementing and omega 6 was very low. I’m on b6/12/mag/zinc but somehow the omega 6 wasn’t given attention.
I’d like to learn more about omega 6/3 that you mentioned in this podcast. Why some need to stop supplementing omega 3 and the connection with omega 6 and pyrrole disorder. Anything I could read or another podcast? Thanks. :)

Are you aware of the dna snps that contribute to the genetic form?

Dr. Snyder, this is a wonderful information but all very new to me. I have many of the symptoms and this seems to fit perfectly for what I've been experiencing. My conventional primary care doctor has done blood work (not sure how extensively) and tells me that I'm quite healthy but doesn't have any idea why I'm so fatigued, have terrible brain fog, sleep problems, constant muscle pains and increased weakness. He's minimized all the other factors such as an extended litigation, high conflict custody battle and work stress which I believe to be at the core of my problems. He doesn't seem to understand why I've been back to him several times when I'm "so healthy" so I think it's time to search for a new provider. Do you have any advise on what I should look for or avoid in a holistic doctor? By any chance, might you know of a reputable provider in the Spokane, WA or Couer D Alene, ID area?
Thank you very much!

Hi Dr Snyder I been suffering a long time. I made some progress through the years but this past year had a pretty intense set back. What do you think of pyrrole pm?
I took a very pea size dosage on my wrist and even this was to much. Skin burning intense pressure in the gut.
I appreciate your podcast and hoped there was a way to connect telehealth with you? Im doing all know to do to get better. I just want so much to be able to get out of my house again. Thank you for your podcast.

I would like to know if once the problem is treated does it come back? Or is stress the big variable ?
Removing copper is no joke.
Especially from the brain.

Do you look at PMDD in light of pyrrole disorder? It is so complex to understand, track and manage.

Hi, I was recently diagnosed with pyrole disorder, undermethylation, and heavy metals (😭😭😭😭) and I’m on several supplements for it and after 3 months my numbers came back even higher 🤪
Are there supplements out there specifically formulated for this? What other options are there?
