Getting to the bottom of everything the amp needs to shine again, including genuine authentic Mad Scientist stuff.

(uploaded again so when Pt 3 drops in a few days everything will make sense - it took a while to get the speaker reconed)

Dang, Lyle closing in on 60K subscribers! I remember the slow climb to 5K. I have an Eminence speaker with that same tearing paper-buzzing sound, mine is definitely no good (and not worth re-coning). I guess it's technically possible to replace the voice coil without doing a complete re-coning. I may take the dust cover off when my replacement speaker arrives next week, just for fun.

I like your real world testing. Thanks for fixing the old amp and producing the video.

For those interested, "A field coil speaker is a loudspeaker that uses an electromagnet instead of a permanent magnet to move its cone."

I can tell you as having played through a completely original 1937 EH150 using it's matching all original ES-150 guitar, the amp you are working on sounds nothing like what I played through, and I didn't play it one time and never again, it was weekly for several years as I was renting a house off of the 2nd owner of the guitar and amp, and he blessed me with allowing me to play them (deepest "V" neck ever, but also damn comfortable!) the amp sounded SO MUCH better than the one you are working on, I would suspect changes to the circuit or other fuckery.

This is such a cool old amp, and I want to thank you for returning it to service.

The collector value on this amp is huge. Playing through it would be like driving a Ford Modal C. A very fine place to visit but I wouldn't want to live there on a daily basis. YMMV.
