I have terminal cancer and i decided i wanted to spend some of the time i have left baking and decorating. It seems foolish sometimes, spending money on supplies i won't be using for very long, but hopefully one of my daughters will want the stuff and put it to good use. I appreciate your videos showing easy and creative decorating ideas. My next project will be an all too fancy smash cake for my granddaughters first birthday. Complete with buttercream roses!

Oh! And if you don’t have a cake onto which you can put roses — meaning, if you’d like to just practice making roses, or if you’d like to make and refrigerate them in advance of baking your cake — you can tack a 1.5 - 2 inch square piece of parchment paper onto your piping nail with a dot of buttercream, and just build your rose on that and set aside. I put mine on a tray in the refrigerator.

Never came across any tutorial for piping in which movements are explained so well. Thank you! Please talk about consistencies of icings for piping. Which icing is better and firm for decorating and how to make it.

Thank you so very much for making this short! I've always wanted to actually see how to make roses. Can't wait to try my hand at making some!

I really LOVE seeing younger creators making BACK TO BASICS tutorials 💕! With so many hundreds (thousands?) of piping tips available, I feel like it’s rare to see a cute short with basic instruction for a buttercream rose 🌹. I’m going to keep an eye out now for equally cute tutorial shorts re: essential elements of baking, crumb coats, other buttercream flowers, your top 5 or 10 must-have tools, coloring your icing, buttercream types and textures, how to fix broken stuff, etc. It’s nice watching your journey as an experienced decorator early in your baking journey. You bring an interesting and layered perspective.

Maybe we should to team up 😅

Great explanation. Ive been making roses for about 17 years now, and ive never gotten the hang of using the scissors. Ive always used a small off set spatula, then the flat part of my rose nail to shimmy it into place!

This is very helpful! I've always wondered how you make roses for a cake!
AND, I've a metal icing tip and bag set. Never used it with icing, only for fancy deviled eggs! Lol
My niece and nephew LOVE them!
So I make deviled eggs for them anytime we've a get together.

That brown and yellow looks good together and you are good at making the flowers.

I could never get the hang of the nail for making roses, I use a short skewer stick to make my buttercream roses. This tutorial was awesome.

If you put a piece of parchment on the rose nail, then you can take off each rose and freeze them.

Once frozen and all are made, place them all over your cake, without fear of wrecking them.

Little 2 inch square is all you need for parchment.

I have been doing cake decorating for my job since April and I love doing buttercream roses, but I always good up when I have to take them off, so usually I just make a lot of them with parchment stuck to the nail and then I pop them in the freezer on a tray and take them out when I need them.
Also I just wanted to say that your videos have been a major help with seeing techniques in action and getting cake inspiration!
