EXPLORE : Bikepacking North Vancouver Island ~ Episode 7

The adventure continues bikepacking the rugged landscape of North Vancouver Island.

Heavy rain is in the forecast and the good weather will only last for the day, so I took the day to explore the area around Kathleen Lake checking out Raging River, and Devil's Bath. This area is full of rich gold & copper mining history, with mine names such as Elk Lake (now Benson Lake), Old Sport, and Mary Widow to name a few. New technology has prospecting companies completing drilling programs in the area assessing new deposits. I had planned on riding up Mary Widow Mountain to check out one of the more recent Empire Mine, where there are still large abandoned open pits high up on top of the mountain commanding amazing views of the surrounding valleys, however, there wasn't enough time in the day to make the 1200 metre climb.

The waterfall is amazing! So beautiful. The new hammock rainfly is nice. I read the other comments and you mentioned the wind...I didn't think of that. Maybe a new sport...hammock para sailing??? 🤔
Thank you for your video's and taking us on your adventures.

It's always such a treat to ditch the gear and ride without it. Almost like riding a new, very twitchy bike!

It would be great of you decided to meet Ryan Van Duzer, one day, and ride together for an eppic trip (and make videos out of it, of course !)

It's crazy to me that you are exploring all this on a bike! When we went up there we had minimum 2 fully loaded vehicles full of gear ;) haha

So green!! I haven't seen that much color since my last visit to the produce department at my local market. Things are still very dry here in Colorado

I love the consistency with your videos, specifically when you acknowledge the areas you explore in the intro. I assume you use the hammock in the winters too? Great content.
