The event was organised by Sir Bob Geldof and Midge Ure to raise funds for the Ethiopian famine disaster. Broadcast across the world via one of the largest satellite link-ups of all time, the concerts were seen by around 40% of the global population.

one of the GREATS...Patti LaBelle is one of the great divas the States has ever produced. Her catalogue, from the Bluebelles on thru LaBelle, to all of her solo work, is kinda staggering, to the tune of 50 million-plus records sold. Her musical output is extremely impressive and she's one of those elder singers that the younger generation of singers, look up to in a very sincere way. You dont get placed on the "100 Greatest Singers of All Time" list, unless you've spent a lifetime being as successful as she's been.

I've been listening to my idol since I was about 12 years old, her voice is so, so amazing that it send chill down your spine .I was.diagnosed with cancer when I was 18 and my throughs was I was going to die and that I won't be able to hear her sing I took a picture of her on the cover of jet every time I went to the hospital for my chemotherapy treatment, it gave me comfort and strength to live long and strong, when I get depressed and down, I turn to ms Patti to bring me around it's been 31 year that I've been cancer free thank you God and Ms Patti
