Tanzanian President John Magufuli dies at 61

Tanzanian President John Magufuli has died, aged 61, after what the government said was a battle with heart disease.
Magufuli who was a COVID-19 sceptic, passed away amid rumours that he succumbed to coronavirus-linked complications.
The government has denied these claims.
Vice President Samia Suluhu Hassan will likely succeed him until the next election in 2025.

The death of Tanzanian President John Magufuli has sent shock, sadness and sorrow, not only in Tanzania but also here in Kenya and the East African bloc, and Africa at large. He tried to stop looting of public funds and he made sure that members of his cabinet and even the Tanzanian MPs were disciplined. Our dear Tanzanians, we Kenyans join hands with you in mourning this great icon and your beloved president too. President Magufuli was a great icon in the East African Community.
